I was wondering if anybody that rides belongs to a club or group. I was a member of the MMBA for a few years, but when family schedules took over and my riding tapered off, I gave it up. I also used to ride with the Wolverine Cycling Club on their weekly Wednesday Night ride out of Royal Oak. Since then, it's just been a loosely knit group of guys that get together every once in a while.

How about you? Anybody belong to any groups, clubs, or organizations?

I don't even know of any in my area (Bay City). In a way, I wish there was, but I still don't know if I'd join it. I like riding when I want to ride, but don't really like it when I have to ride at a specific time.

Ruler, you'd fall under the Northeast Chapter for the MMBA. You could check out their site and see what events are taking place for that area. I know what you mean about wanting to ride versus needing to ride. I sometimes like to do a ride spur of the moment, which isn't always conducive to getting a group together. And then, I like to ride at my own pace. Many times a group ride can turn into a hammer-fest, something that I'm simply not in shape for. I know the pace that our little group rides at and we're always conscious of how others are keeping up and set the pace based on them. It's much more fun to take time and actually experience the woods that you're riding through.

I ride by myself usually. I like to stop and look at things to often for any serious riders.

Yeah, a friend Mark introduced me to the "scenic tour" style of riding several years ago. We had many chances to stop and look around because he was always stopping to adjust or fix something on his bike. :)
