View Full Version : Bow Mount Shaft Length

Thinking of putting an electric bow mount on an 18' Lund Alaskan. Boat is in storage so I can't get a measurement. Anyone know the appropriate shaft length? I intend to use it on the SCR so I'm thinking 70#, 24 volt. Appreciate any input.

54" or longer if you can, and a 24v system 70# should be plenty for your boat.

Thought that question sounded pretty familiar. Did not know you were a member of this site.... welcome. Believe I saw a 55 # thrust Minn Kota in the classified section , might be worth checking out. Good luck in your search for a motor. See ya at the club .

You never know who you might run into in the e-world. Glad you woke up. You're the only guy I know that can take a nap on a skeet field.

Get the longest shaft motor you can find. If need be you can always lift motor up some in shallower water but you can't stretch it in waves, when the prop is coming out of the water. We used a 36" shafted transom mount type motor on the bow (by turning the head) of my buddies boat and in flat calm water it worked great. When there was any kind of chop or wave action, prop spent most of the time out of the water. Even with weight in the front of the boat. Most people don't realize how high the bow comes out of the water in waves, I have a 60" shaft motor on the bow of my boat and if the prop wont stay in the water it is too rough to use the bow mount lol. 70# 24 volt here.

The longer the better. When you fish the mouth of the SCR you need as much power as you can get. Its pretty scary how fast the current can smash you into a bouy if your not paying attention.
