It was getting soft last year and I made it through. Kind've weary on what to expect when I unwrap it this year. It is the rear 4-5ft of the floor, which got saturated when it was left in the lake a couple years ago, and heavy rains filled 'er up past the floor. Anyone have any experience or tips/tricks to replacing a floor. Should I only do the section if the rest is solid, or should I do it all? Can I peel up the carpet and reuse it, or does it normally be damaged beyond reuse afterwards? Any tips or tricks would be much o-precciated!
Oh yeah, it's a wood floor.

Does anyone know any reputable but reasonably priced person/place to have a floor replaced.? I have a 1989 17 1/2 foot Thundercraft that seems to have a few soft spots. I wanted to replace the seats this spring, but thought I might as well get the soft spots or entire floor replaced. This is my first boat so I'm very leery of tackling this job myself. I know a lot of people say it isn't that difficult but so far I haven't gotten enough confidence to attempt it yet.
Or if anyone knows of a good step-by-step website or book that I could look at to try and become confident enough to attempt this that would be helpful too.
Thanks
Jim

Try iboats.com. they have a forum that deals specifically with this problem and the guys on there are quite helpful. Having a floor replaced by a shop wil be quite expensive a 35+ an hour.

Hey Jim,
Maybe we could team up and have a "Boat Floor Replacement" party!
I did come across a few good websites, I'll send them to you when I find them again! :dizzy:
I'd imagine if you're somewhat of a carpenter, you can do it. I'm gonna give it a shot, see what happens.

Landsend,
Thanks that would be very helpful. I'm still considering it. Gotta start it soon though. I don't want to be working on the boat when it can be in the water instead.

Got the estimate back from the shop. Must say, I was completely stunned. Here's an estimate on replacing the floor and one stringer.
$3000.00
