if you have a lake with gills and perch i'd use wax worms on one pole for gills and jig a jack spoon for perchwith the second rod

I would say minnows, but I have had great success with berkley power grubs, maggots (in the jar) on a hali glow jig. I like the bigger hali for deeper water, and I think it gets the bigger fish.

i'd jig a swedish pimple with a small perch eyeball. if the gills are worth keeping they'll hit it too.

One rod setup with live bait(whatever will work on that day). A two hook setup 6" apart with the lower one either a hali, swedish pimp., etc. to get it back down fast. The top hook either plain, tear drop or ice fly. The other rod I use some type of jig. I usually start out with a small jigging rapala tip with a minnow head on the treble. Yesterday, where I like to fish, I had a mark show up about 5ft off the bottom, I raised the jig up and started jigging. Wham, a solid hit and the fight was on. I knew it wasn't a perch. Usually when these marks come in, I usually pick up a cisco, but this wasn't no cisco. After about five good runs, got it up to the hole and it turned out to be a laker(22ft of water). My father in law had a gaff and we were able to land it.

A long time buddy I work with calls then "Satan's Fruit" because of their outward demonic looks....LOL
I'm sure the perch see their "inner beauty" or maybe their skulls Kr00NcH like Doritos...

For live bait, minnows is usually the bait of choice. Of course, perch will also hit off pretty anything you will put down there, waxies, mousies, ect. However, the minnow will attract them in, but, when they are in, they usually hit off anything. In spring, summer, and fall i like to use night crawlers on some hooks, some days, they far out produce minnows.

As said previously, i like to have one minnow pole on a bucket and a jigging pole, were i usually have a jiggin rap, smackin jack, pimple, ect. You got to draw em in first.

I am surprised no one mentioned plastics. Little atom nuggies in glow green or "blood" red work great. L.A. Knacker spoons work to. I use spikes on them. Glow green again. There knacker spoon got my patrner and I tenth place at the New York trap attack.

I agree with bringing a couple baits because they can be pickey. In my limited luck with catching perch (take this for what you want), I have caught more perch on wigglers and waxies than on minnows. However; I have caught more quality perch on minnows. I've found that a tear drop (I like gold) that lays paralelle with the bottom and with a minnow hooked through the lips works pretty goo.

Predominately I have caught more perch on minnows but waxies, spikes and wigglers all work.I found out by chance that on the finicky days when perch arent biting agressively that wigglers seem to catch them.Somedays the standard jigging rap #3 size with a red jenson egg or a kens spoon is red hot.

I am one of the lucky ones that have A vex and a camera. The camera certainly adds perch to my dinner table in a big way. Although I have all the goodies my favorite way to chase perch is being mobile with my bucket and going from hole to hole. I will punch two holes one for a minnow and the other to jig. When Jigging I mainly use Ken's spoons or Raps with a Jenson egg. When the minnow becomes active I know the perch are in the area and work the jig a little harder. If I don't get a bite the next time the minnow acts up I will stop the jigging and see how the perch respond.

Keep this close to the vest...Get a quart mason jar and punch some holes in the lid. Tie a sting through two of the holes that is long enough to get the jar to the bottom. Then drill two holes in the ice where you're going to fish - the greater the depth, the more distance between the holes (2' to 15' is my guideline) Put 8-10 minnows in the jar and lower to a foot off the bottom. This will bring in the perch. In the other hole, try larger jigs - 1" swedish pimple, ect. tipped with the head of a good size (3") minnow. Jig it.;)
