Heres a question to all anglers.Your fishing with a buddy and you rode together your having a great day and him not so good now when you get your limit do you stop and wait for him or help him with his?I think this is a tough thing for fishermen and I follow most all laws but on this one I must say I stay and help him.
well it depends. i have helped friends finish off there limits. but if they don't want help i usually just keep fishin, catch and release until he is done fishin.

If he doesn't want help than cull your limit!

He wanted help and you pretty much can't throw them back in the winter if they've been out of water very long.

I help. Just throw a few of your fish on his side of the shanty. I've never even thought this may be illegal. I've always thought that 2 guys, the limit goes up to 50 between the 2 of you. Just make sure that you each only have 25 (or whatever the limit is for that species) in your possession at once.

Am I understanding the question right? you got your limit and should you keep catching fish for your buddy???
NO you shouldn't keep catching and keeping the species you already have a limit on! this pratice is called ILLEGAL!
I really can't believe anyone in their right mind would think its OK once you get your limit to keep catching and keeping fish for someone elses limit.
:dizzy:
after filling your deer tags, would you shoot another deer to fill your buddy's tag too?
I really hope no one is stupid enough to think this practice is acceptable...
Sorry, but had to vent a little on this one.

WATCH OUT ETHICS POLICE!!!!!:help: :hide:
Thinking this is wrong is fine but to sit there and call other people stupid for haveing a different opinion is well..... STUPID!
usually when we ice fish..its in a shanty. there are 2 of us in it and ALL the fish we catch go in the same bucket. im going to be honest and say i hardly evr get my limit. call me what u will, but i dont see a problem with the way we fish. lets say your on lake erie in the summer time and the bite is really good. there are 4 of you..so you have 8 rods out on planer boards. everyone is catching fish and its easy to lose count of who caught what. anybody who has fished erie has probably run into this situation, and you simply stop fishing when you have your 4 man limit.

Does anybody have a buddy that would rat on him? Whose going to tell? If you have your limit and you give two fish away, how many do you have? Remember that possesion is 9/10s of the law.
And to answer duckman's question. Yes, I would fill a tag for someone who wants to eat some venison. That is called taking care of thy neighbor. The big guy in the sky likes that, and that gets me points with him I'm thinkin.

A similar question was posted on here a while back. And I'm fairly certain that a CO stated that this would be acceptable. As long as you dont go over the two man limit. And to call someone stupid for doing this is just rediculous. Yes I do it, and can can honestly tell you that I dont know anyone that wouldnt.

Now you know that its illegal to fill others tags. If you want to help out your neighbor why don't you give him some of you legally tagged deer. Thats what a lot of sportsmen do when they donate to charity organizations who accept venison for the needy.
As far as the question asked I am to the point where I rarely want to limit out because I do not need to to have a good time which is why I am out there. When my buddy and I are fishing together what we usually do is to divide the fish when we get home. This is an interesting question because is that illegal? What if you want to give a venison steak to your neighbor because he has never shot one and would like to try it? Would like to have a CO answer this question for us.

I fish with kids most of the time. "We" catch a limit for everyone in with licsences and the adults never reel in a fish. But the adults are doing most of the "fishing" the kids do most of the catching. So whos fish would be whos.

we just throw all of our fish together so no one keeps count on how many they catch. just how many more until the limit.:D

Exactly.
I think that a limit is how many you can have in your possession. As long as your buddy is keeping the extra fish with him, they would be in his possession, not yours.
I think it happens all of the time.

I think most do it this way. Personally I see nothing wrong with it. But I do believe (technically) it is illegal to "party fish". Unless a CO is watching 100% of the time and knows whose fish is whom's, its very difficult if not impossible to prove.

How would they enforce that on a charter boat? The times I've been out, the fish all have went in the same cooler.

Duckman you need to grow up.This was a very good post but you always have one bad egg around that looks to slam other fisherman. When we fish all fish we catch are divided evenly when we get back so if one person doesn't have as good of luck it doesn't matter he gets as many fish as the next guy and we usually clean them together too.I',m glad to hear most fisherman feel the same way I do.We go to Saginaw and spend 200.00 dollars at least in the area every time we go so were also helping out the area businesses. Thanks for all the great posts except for one.I also am in Quality Deer Management and shot my first buck in the last 4 years and I've probably let 25 go in that time but follow our rules and shoot does to eat.I'm a very law abidind outdoorsman on most everything but this post.

Sorry to upset so many, go ahead, catch all the fish you want, kill all the deer you want.
I thought the regulations were the law, I guess I'm the stupid one for following fish & game laws. Apparently I'm one of the few..
Oh, how does your QDM statement fit in this?

Say you were the stupid one I have lots more respect for outdoorsman that follows the laws but on this one its not really a terrible thing and I can't beleive you would stop fishing and sit their on the ice for another 2 or 3 hours without fishing because legally if you have your limit you must stop fishing and no more catch and release.Like I said it looks like the majority of fishermen are in the same boat and I bet most all of them follow all the other rules. And your the one that started the stupid thing that was very uncalled for.

I would never do that. My buddy would like to fill his own tag or continue trying. I'd use my mother or grandmother's tag:lol:

if we had as many deer on land as we have fish in the water then it would be a logical comparison and the rules may be different but we know it's not so keep the deer out of this thread

When you are pheasant hunting with a group of guys you dont quit reloading your gun once you limit out, You keep adding to the pile until the others go home with there limit also! I mean if you are fishing with your buddy and you limit out and he only has half whats the difference in leaving him there and helping him out, the fish are still gonna be cought and eatin!! Fish cant really be compared to a 150lbs+ deer. But I think the same goes for the deer your buddy is gonna kill one anyway whats the difference on who pulls the trigger? 2 tags = 2 deer

I have been on charter boats and nobody ever stopped fishing. When the boat limited out it was over and the fish were divided, even if you didnt catch anything. I wonder how many people go out the last few days of gun season on deer drives and shoot til the partys tags are all gone, its not the same.

I was speaking on a personal level with buddies out with me not on a charter.
This thread has come to an end. Once personal attacks start, its over.
