Wind out of the East - Fishin the least, Wind out of the West - Fishin the best. An old wives tale? On my fishing barometer it shows pressure readings for ; Great Fishing, Good Fishing, & Poor Fishing. You can also find Moon times for the best couple of times of day to hunt & fish. High pressure, low pressure, sun or clouds, wind or calm , pressure rising, pressure falling: My question is : WHAT REALLY IS THE BEST TIMES OR WEATHER?

I'll second that! Wind from the west and south, you'll hook 'em in the mouth.

I am guessing Hit The Highway?
The 'wind from the East-fish bite the least, wind from the West-fish bite the best' theory might generally be a guidline to go by, I wouldn't live by it.

Best fishing is whenever you can get out and do it.

I will second that. The last time I checked the beer still tasted good whether there were fish coming through the hole or not.

This much I know. Fished 7 hours today on a lake that had been hot. Limits of 9"+ gills and 13-14" perch. Marked plenty of fish and they would follow the bait up but not hit. Had one 24" pike sit under two holes and dropped minnies down on his nose, but wouldn't eat. He was there 10 minutes. Caught mostly dinks and a few keepers, but no hogs. Winds were howling at 20-30 mph out of the east and the pressure is dropping. Still beat sitting at home.

I was just wondering the same thing tonight. Last night, we hardly marked any fish, but ended up with 15 nice specs. Tonight was a different story however, I was marking so many specs I couldn't believe my eyes, but the bite was horrible. I figured it had something to do with the weather, but I wasn't sure.

Any guesses?

i dont know if its me or not but it seems if a storm will be in within a day, or low pressure coming in, i dont do any good. i also seem to do better on sunny day. but this is probably due to the reflection on the lure.

Fish bite best when there is a rapidly falling barometer before or as a storm system is approaching. After the front has moved by and the barometer is on the rise the bite is usualy off.As for wind direction affecting the bite most of the time yes it matters but it all depends on where you are fishing.Fish in rivers and streams arent as affected by fronts and presure changes as they are lakes and ponds. As for my preferences on which I usualy have had my best days, light or calm winds and barometer steady or slowly falling 30.10 and less.Too low a barometer 29.70 and fish dont bite well as with a high barometer of 30.30 and up.

Some of the best fishing I've experienced has been just before storms rolled in, where the fish went on a tear. Unfortunately, the first roll of thunder always ended the fishing session for me.
