Ok I would like to see some opinions on how the trout will react to the chilly weather this weekend. I'm not really into the fly fishing but more into the garden hackle and spinner/rapala. Will be fishing the south branch-ausable this weekend, and it will be interetsing to see how the catch is with this cold weather. Comments please and good luck to all trout and walley fisherman.

I may be wrong but isnt all of the south branch flies only? It is probably a little high right now. Check out troutbums.com and gateslodge.com . Good info from the local shops.

Above Chase bridge, yes - 15 years ago some garden hackle or mepps down in the backroads of the Mason Tract used to produce some fantastic catches for us local boys..we always said that the flies only catch and release was the best thing going- FOR US....;) :D :) :p
Hey Mickey, lets not give Rusty or Ray's any ideas on making anymore special regs on the south branch....its best as is. Yes the river is high but not at all bad, almost normal for this time of year, excluding the last couple years.

Ahh, thats right. Chase bridge is the starting point. I was just wondering. I figured I was missing something. Good luck beer-n-nuts. I will be throwing garden hackle and mepps this weekend myself. I can't wait!!!!

Hey Mickey, I used to know an Old Timer. His bait-of-choice on opening day was a threaded shiner.
He would take a needle with a hook, insert it in the fish's mouth until it came out the other end and use a snelled treble. He would swear by that method in cold water.
Man, would he nail the browns

The threaded shiner huh? We used to fish trout in the U.P. kinda like that. You put the hook through the minnows lips then back around in the side. This way the minnow spins in the current...round and round. Is killer drifted back into a hole....
