Can anyone tell me what the rules are for riding double on a quad? I have heard you can't but you can pull someone on a sled as long as they are wearing a helmet. Thanks

Can ride double only if the quad was built for 2 people. If pulling people in a sled/trailer or other improvised device they are NOT required to wear a helmet. Only the people on the quad.

i don't think they enforce that law. if it is a law.
i gave a game warden a ride in to the parking lot last year on fletchers.
all i've ever been checked for was my ORV sticker and helment..we ride double all the time

I ride double most the time as well and have been checked several times with no ticket. The law does state that is is illegal though.

at least on LSC they have definitely been known to enforce the helmet law.

Don't do it in Oscoda. I was being checked by a C.O. on the lake and he saw a couple dudes buzzing down the edge riding double. He threw my license back at me and tore off after these guys as if they had snagged a salmon. He jumped in his truck, hit the lights, and chased them down.

He did return and finish checking me out. He said that he had ticketed both of them. The guy on back of the quad didn't have a helmet.

I think like most things if you are flying and the person on the back does not have a helmet yes you will get a ticket, but if you are going slow and the person on the back has a helmet most of time they would not bother you... but the law is the law

So does the riding double also apply to the Outty Max and Polaris X2's? I think that both still have the sticker on them warning to never ride double?

The salesman at gars honda in G.R. told me that it is illegal in michigan no matter what model 1or2 person. That was his answer to "why don't you guys have any 2 person models here?" He did say they have orderd a few for customers. Not sure if he was full of it.

i am pretty sure if the model is obviously a two-up, be it a sled or a quad, you are good to go to ride two-up as long as each has a helmet.

That C/O must be desperate to finish checking you. You would think if the C/O saw you stick around after he checked you the first time--he would move on because you're most likely not doing anything wrong. After all, if you were doing something illegal, would you stick around and wait until the C/O returned. Absolutely not!

Shadow is correct...and they DO enforce it on Lake St. Clair!
