I have a 15 ft Mirrocraft that I stripped completly and installed new full width bench seats(row boat style)with the proper brackets. Talk about a deep and solid boat. The flotation that was under the aluminum seats is what im concerned about incase it capsized. Any ideas would greatly appreciate it.
As it is a tiller model,I have only a 6 hp Evenrude that is a bit to short and way to small but it got us out numerous times on 4 of the great lakes (hugging the shore). There is no Coast Guard plate and I am wondering what size motor you think would be proper or addiquet. I was considering a 15 or 9.9 but my cash is very low and see that the bigger motors are cheaper but I dont want to be unsafe also. The boats dimentions are 15'x60'' and it was built in 1969. Any help would greatly be appreciated and if anyone knows of a motor, PLEASE dont be afraid to pm me.
Have a great day.

A 20-25 HP would be adequate with out the risk of overpowering. You may be able to enclose the underside of the bench seats, and inject some foam, or place styrofoam in as you enclose them.:)

I also agree about the foam under the seats...

If you are putting a floor in that is where I would do the flotation stuff (under it), I did a 16 smoker craft and all my existing stuff was soaked, even with a 40 merc it wouldnt get up on plane, after replacing the foam and rotton floor is was scary fast.

i have just about the very same boat.

I think it is rated for as much as 35HP but that seems too much IMO.

mine has a 15HP on it and it goes just fine, but I wouldn't go less than that.

A friend of mine used to have a 16 ft Mirrocraft Deep Fisherman, side console with a 40 hp on it. I would think the 15 ft should handle a 25 hp real nice.

I have a 80's, 16ft Alumacraft Johnboat with a 25 Evinrude on it. Plenty of motor IMO. With two adults and fishing gear it will run around 30mph. The transom plate says 25 max HP on mine.
