I will never go to a Whitetails Unlimited Dinner Again. The DO NOT support Children involved in the outdoors. It's a long story, let's just say I was basically told by the a regional whitetails unlimited rep "What kind of parent brings a child to a $45 a plate dinner!" My wife and I were very insulted by other comments they made.

I WAS a huge whitetails unlimited fan. I have over 15 prints, Chair, Guns, ETC...Over the past 10 years i've spent approx $10K on an organization which I thought was worth supporting.

I wanted to know how they felt about kids in the outdoors so i took the time to write to whitetails unlimited directly in Wisconsin. Expressed my experience with this particular dinner, never heard a word from anyone.

I went to four dinners a year....and will never go again! The whole deal still makes me sick!

I don't typically bring my kids (7 and 4) but my buddy really wanted me to come. I told him the only way i'd go is if HE asked the guy putting it on for his blessing. This guy then told me by all means bring your kids.."We believe in kids and the outdoors!" So I went....spent $800...paid for a motel room...then the next morning sat in the restaraunt and listened to them insult us! A Very Very Bad experience!

If you wonder where it was, it was @ the Ludington Whitetails Unlimited Banquet!

And yes I talked to them right there in the restaurant...I told them exactly what I thought of there comments.

The reason many organization reps don't want kids at banquets is that typically kids don't have $$$$ to spend. They feel they are taking a spot that could be filled with an adult with deep pockets. The bottom line profit is all many of these guys worry about.

Personally, I'd rather have a kid there spending time with their family and getting involved in the outdoors. Hook em young and keep them coming back as they get older.

I'm not sure about Whitetails Unlimited but most conservation organizations take the majority of the money raised locally and spend it elsewhere. Not a bad deal with ducks/geese that are migratory but a waste for deer and turkeys as far as I'm concerned. I'll support Pheasants Forever where 100% of locally raised money (membership cost goes to National) stays at the local chapter.
