I need some recommendations on rod holders....

I recently upgraded and went from a small aluminium fishing boat to a 15 Ft Starcraft Runabout style boat.

The boat has a covered bow and open rear. I'd like to use it for trolling for pike/walleye and to some extrent I have deulsions of trying to catch salmon out of it.

That being said, I know that people have said over and over to not skimp on the rod holders because you could lose the rod/reel/fish/etc all at one time if it were to break.

That being said.... What rod holders can you recommend and where can I get them?

Thank you very much in advance!

I would go with Tite-Loc holder as a minimum. They are pretty reasonable for an aluminium holder. The plastics just don't give me enough security even for walleye.
If you want very nice holders look at Bert's holders. Easy adjusting and durable.

I would definately try the salmon thing very easy to do when they come up close in spring and fall.

Mounting is the critial part of the holder. It will only perform as good as how it is fastened to your boat. Use backer plates and bolts when mounting the holder.

Take a look around at the bigger tackle stores and you will be able to see the differences between all of them.
Frank's Great Outdoors has a very nice selection as well as Gander Mt., Cabelas, Bass Pro.
The Fishdogco guys from this board may be able to help you out with a good deal as well.

Good luck!

If your gonna do salmon, ESPECIALLY harbor patrol fall salmon, but Berts, Pursuit(Traxtech), Big John, Vector, Fishlander, great lakes, etc.. A QUALITY, possitivly locking aluminum tube style rod holder...

Good advice above. Here is my post from a thread a few items down.

Check the Big Jon Site, and contact John Williams about some factory blems.
I picked up some Multi Set rod holders that looked VG to me for $40 each. Here is a link to their site. A fishing pal has them on his boat also. We use them for Dipsys as well as PBs.:)
