This may sound crazy but I'm tired of purchasing 3 dozen worms each time I go out fishing as in years past. I'm thinking of either starting a worm farm or finding where I can purchase worms in larger quantities? Has anyone out there had any success with a worm farm??? I'm thinking it maybe easier if anyone knows where I can purchase larger quantities of worms and just keep them in my garage fridge? If anyone out their has any advice on this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Lochness, you can get alot of nighcrawlers after a good rain, maybe that will work for you, get some help from your sisters (HA-HA)...

I have "farmed worms" as it were to sell to bait shops. It isn't hard but if you want fat active worms you do need to pay them some attention every day. If you want details, PM me and we'll set up something. I have books and equipment that might be helpful to you.

I don't know if you've already tried this but most large tackle shops that sell bait can order crawlers by the flat. In fact that is usually the way the shop itself orders them.

I think I paid $35 for a flat of 500 crawlers for our Canada trip. If you keep them fed and cool they last a very long time.

I dont know about you guys but all you need to do is go out in your back yard the night before and catch em yourself. I find that they are out in force and I easiely get 50-60 in about 30 minutes and have fresh bait when I go out the next morning. They can be quick but it's fun catching em and you save tons of money. If you have kids, pay them the $$ and it keeps em busy and away from the TV or video games.

Cabela's also sell by the 500 pack....
You can buy the 'magic worm bedding' almost anywhere - if you bury an old cooler in the ground & keep it out of the sun , they will keep very well.

A buddy of mine showed me a page in Cabella's that had all kind and colors of live bait. Don't know the costs but I remember it was alot cheaper than paying $1.50 a dozen
