Good job Empty Net! I'm hoping to get out on Sunday. Has anyone been doing anything after 10 a.m? I may not be able to get out until about then. By the way, how big were the perch. I was able to get a few over 13" 2 weeks ago.

Nice job on the perch and welcome to the site emptynet. Were you getting them on minnows, crawlers, wigglers, or waxies? I assume by arms you mean the pier at Muskegon. Where did you launch at?

Hey Stein, I didn't know if you needed to know where to launch but I'd thought I would try to help you out. There's a launch that is real easy to get to off the the causeway. You take m-120 exit off US31 north towards North Muskegon. Stay on this road till it veers south towards Muskegon. Thats the causeway or Shoreline Drive. You'll see a sign for Fisherman's Landing on right about a half mile down from the turn south. Follow signs. $5 to launch. Another launch closer to the channel is take the Laketon exit off 31 north. Go west till it turns into Lakeshore Dr.
Past the paper mill is a bait shop and there are signs for boat launch. $5 to launch. Watch this launch area and stay within the bouys. Its very shallow outside of the bouys. Hope this helps and good luck perch jerking!

Almost fogot, the arms are the pier heads. I was getting them about a 1\2 mile out in 65-70 ftw. There's another spot about 3\4-1 mile north of the pier heads in 60ftw that I have also done well at. No gps coor but line your self up the tall dune and I believe there is a big house also.

sfw1960, There is one theory that the drowned river mouth lakes along the Michigan shoreline are in part perch nursuries for some of the fish in Lake Michigan. Wisconsin, Illinois, and Indiana are not as fortunate as Michigan and if you've noticed the last few years we have had a good consistant perch fishery with larger personal limits than the other states. Count you blessings for now, because we are facing some drastic challenges with the decline of the important food sources and competition from the goby and other exotics. We used to drive to other ports for perch, but now that the limit is 35 there is no advantage and there is a great gas savings.
