Can you guys give me some feedback on where to find a parka style jacket with attached hood, that is wind proof and warm enough to sit all day outside? Please, no Carhart or deer hunting orange pumpkin jackets. Just looking for something warm, wind/water proof like the dark green ones with the fur hood that Ark surplus used to carry. What can I expect to pay? Thanks.

Got a really nice Beretta jacket/liner set on e-bay last year from jonsportshop in Minnesota. Best quality coat/liner set I have ever owned. Extremely windproof and waterproof and not too heavy. It is woodland camo. Al

You can pick it up from a site sponsor KD Outdoors. It has been the most amazing gettup I have ever worn..... plus it floats if you fall thru. do a search on this site for Arctic Armor. You will not be dissapointed. Oh yeah, Ken will give you a nice discount just for being a member of this fine site.

My wife bought me one at Burlington Coat factory for Christmas. Is is a parka style that looks like a Columbia, but about half price. The outer is windproof and water resistant. It has fleece lined hood and a fleece zip in liner that also has a wind proof shell. I sat on the ice this past Saturday on a bucket and was 100% comfortable in 20-30 mph winds. I wear it to work without the liner and sweat when I am indoors. It doesn't breath well which is a good thing fishing in the wind. You would be suprised at some of the parkas at Burlington. I always thought they just carried "pimp" clothes and fake fur jackets.

I think it was around 50-60 bucks.

I got my hunting parka at Dicks (or was it Dunhams?) It's a Walls and while my matching bibs are not that warm, my parka is great! Water resistant and very wind proof. I can sit out all day in that coat no problem. I paid $60.00 for it.

Thanks for the advice and suggestions. After this past weekend, I realized just how cold your body can get in a few hours. Haven't shivered like that since I got my bill for my divorce 10 years ago. Thanks again.

I will second or third the columbia.

I bought a jacket the beginning of January at Kohls for 50% off. So I got it for $70. I dont wer it fishing but is by far the warmest jacket I ever owned. I regularly wear it outside with a tshirt on under it and thats it. I got the one without the liner and it is plenty for me. I am going to buy another next year and turn this one into my fishing jacket.

If your looking to spend the cash... sure. If that is the case, I have found Northern Outfitters clothing to be stupid warm! sat for 5 straight days 1 hour before sunup to 1/2 hour after dark in SK and never shivered once!

I'll put in another plug for Columbia. If you can get one on sale jump on it. They make GOOD stuff! My wife and I both bought some nice Colombia coats back in November of 1993 when we were headed to Alaska for Thanksgiving. They were nice and warm up there and worked very well. Mine is a "Gizmo" and has a removable liner. It's an awesome jacket. I wore the heck out of the thing for years but have been wearing my Carhartt more lately. But about four years ago I pulled my Columbia out of the closet and put it on and noticed that the zipper slide had a problem. I contacted Columbia and they sent me a repair kit FREE OF CHARGE! And this was for a ten year old coat! GREAT customer service IMO. I received the repair kit and did the fix and it's good as new. Columbia gear isn't cheap, but it's worth every penny. Remember, you get what you pay for.

My son worked at the Columbia store for a while. We used his discounts during sales periods and now we all have the gear. The clothing is water and rain resistant Titanium. If you knew what we paid for it you would be envious.

They have some real good sales just before Christmas each year. I would bet even now the are clearing out all winter gear.

My younger sister got me one for X-mas.She got it at sears. It actually has a craftsman logo on the inside sticker, real big oversized hood, heavy duty zipper,2 big inside pockets(like em for small tackle boxes-bait),well insulated(thick),and she paid $65.00-best outdoor coat I've ever owned.

Columbia, I just bought a parka this year. Was out last weekend in the high winds and didn't feel any air come through at all! It's the two peice, liner with parka. It's great because I usually only wear the liner which is extremely wind proof itself. Get the titanium version!
