I see a couple of center pin reels here for sale.My question is do you have to have a specific rod for the reel??? I have an 11'6" St.Croix rod and was wondering if that would work ???? Thanks in advance....

11''6 will work get the reel slap it on that croix.... if you like fishing with it you can always upgrade to a better rod later most common float rod is 13 to 15 foot.......smaller rods do work well on smaller waters reason for longer rods is if your drifting long stretches helps keep line of water fight the fish exct....

line weight of the rods a factor. i prefer a little stiffer rod for hook set especially when running longer drifts, because of the weight of the line in the water will slow down the reaction time, and the heavier bobber rig(shotted leader, jig, and 11g float) this is alot of weight to be pulling up with the tip of the rod. Also sometimes i sleep when the bobber goes down;) . but ive went with rods as short as 9ft for my pins because the river wasn't much wider. but you can always put lead core in the reel to balance the rod. i would rather a little cork heavy instead of tip because your arm doesn't go as tired when hold the tip up

Thats not a bad rod for a pin, a little short but a good choice for small waters. I assume your rod has rings and not a fixed seat. If it has a fixed seat designed for a spinning reel it prolly wont balance a pin real well. (you want a pin farther up the handle then you would with a spinning reel)
