Being as I am new to this whole ice fishing thing, today was a great day for me! I am sure to all of the veterans it would have been pretty average, but what can you say?

Started out straight out from cotton rd and headed for some weeds. First spot we stayed about 30 minutes and got nothing. We moved about 1/4 mile or so straight to the north east and found a nice looking spot near some weeds. 5 minutes into this spot I hooked into a very nice pike. After a 3-4 minute struggle I landed a fat 28.5 inch pike on 3lb line. Now that was fun!

As soon as we let the pike go, we started catching some decent perch. We could only stay until 3 pm, and we ended up catching 30-35 perch. We kept 17, and let the rest go. The biggest was a 12.5 inch fatty. Also had a really nice largemouth up to the hole but I didn't set the hook well enough and it popped out. Oh well.

All in all a great day for me and my buddy. It's only my 3rd time on the big lake ice fishing, so I cannot complain! Oh by the way... we used minnows on green and white glow in the dark tear drops with a red egg on the hook as well. Water was very clear. We were fishing in about 7.5-8 foot of water.

FISH ON!

It sounds like someone is hooked:D . Thats a great day for anyone. I love seeing the fish. Now you will be dying like all the rest of us in the fall, waiting for that hard water. Thanx for the report.

i went just out to the left of cotton road today the first hole pop open had nothing at first then after about10 minutes had 2 eyes swim through had a bump and run on one of the eyes they look to be about 15" or so.
no perch yet about 20 minutes later had a large school of smallies come through manage to catch 2 one being 12" and the other being17" long ..
desided to make make the mile walk to mouth of salt river 6 feet of water crstal clear the perch were so thick in there you could not see bottom.
after about 20 minutes goes by my hole emptyed and next thing i know had to been at least 30" plus pike slammed my rapala and it was on. after about 5 minutes trying to work him in one thrash in the hole and he was gone.
had no perch for about 45 minutes after that seen 2 more smaller pike swim through my hole what amazing day for me ended up with about 23 keepers on perch. my hat off to the guy that landed his pike. it was a rush. tight lines all

I was out there this morning headed left and caught 2 keepers right away in the weeds then nothing for awhile so I headed more left and set up right away I watched a huge jumbo of 14"s come up and peg my spoon caught her and then had a nice large mouth about 16" but like a football take my line caught him and that was about it for the day besides dinks. Good day I guess. I did let my keepers go cause I only had the three it hurt to say good bye to the 14"er.:(

next time you hook into that big pike, put the rod down the hole so the tip is below the bottom of the ice and fight it that way...he wont break you off that way....wait until hes good and tired and youve got a couple of feet between the rod tip and fish and just pull him straight up through the hole in one smooth motion
