No... If you start it in saltwater it will blow up in minutes..

That was a lie.. It will be fine. May want to flush it with clean water on muffs when you pull it out. Wash the boat and motor off good at a car wash as well.

Additionally, check the sacrificial anodes and make sure they are what they reccomend for salt... West Marine or Boaters world should have what you need.

EVERY TIME we are done using a boat in the salt, we wash the entire boat off. Flush the motor and spray down all the gear (fly rods, reels....etc....)

That about covers it except you will want to replace any mounting hardware with the best grade stainless you can get your hands on.

Dont believe for a second those Clowns.
Of course Fresh water engines dont Explode in Saltwater.
The Salt eats the internals out and they IMplode with in minutes.

Aside from the anodes and flushing you may want to consider applying some Die-Electric Grease/Silicone to the connectors of any electrical components and connectors.
This will prolong any electrical problems (corrosion) as the Die-Electric Silicone will act as a gasket preventing salt water and salt spray from getting into the plugs, harnesses and wires.
This is the same Die-Electric Silicone that you use for applying to your spark plug boots when you change wires.
I do this will all of my snomobiles and you should do the same to your outboard. Salt water will cause electrical issues long before you see any problems with your motors' internals.

actually the salt water is ruff on alloy castings and will cause your underwear to rot off.
