The past couple of years I have been seeing more of a certain kind of scat that I can't identify. It will be in a pile about the size of a pile of deer pellets, usually in an open area near cover. The individual pieces are shaped like catkins(you know, those long things on a birch tree)except they are shorter and fatter. The color is a light brown to tan. I don't find any animal parts in it like fur or bones or crawdad claws. Does any one know what this might be?

Two weekends ago we were out at camp planting trees. Everyone asked me what this scat was, but all I could tell them was I didn't know.

I am pretty sure it is porcupines. I found the same stuff on my property and it was right near a tree where one had stripped the bark off.
