I have a Fish Trap Yukon with the way the wind was blowing I didn’t want to stand up afraid it was going to take off. Right now I use the slush from the holes to try and lock it in. But with the way it was blowing yesterday that did nothing. The wind kept me in from fishing today and that sucks. I was thinking about using tree climbers on 3 sides of the sled and just slide it in once it's in turn them so they are snug against the sides. Just a thought not sure it will work. How do you keep yours from taking off?

Jim, told you it was gonna be fun yesterday!
Your question about shanty anchors has been asked before and many here have come the aid of fellow members w/some great ideas. Do a search and I'm sure you'll find them! One guy (cant remember name) made a swivel, off set anchor style that would fit into a almost bored thru hole, it would bind up in the hole when upward pressure was applied, like an anchor.
Jpollmans is one that even a hurricane couldnt budge. One I've seen used up on HL is to use a cordless drill to sink a couple of 8 to 10 inch 3/8" dia. lag bolts, a large flat washer at the top, and a few links of chain under the washer to tie your rope thru. ;)

Thanks guys.
Hey Greg yeah it was fun! :dizzy: The only reason I didn't try using my rope was then I have a side wind. With the fish trap with out snow you get a real nice draft. I like to try and keep the wind to my back. Maybe I can drill a hole in the back of the sled put a eye bolt in it :yikes: and hook a rope to that as a anchor.

Jim, Use four eye bolts, two on each end. You can tie-off on both rearward sides. Re-enforce eyebolts with really large flat washers or a strip of flat stock aluminum between them. This well save the tub from getting cracked and the eye bolts from pulling thru. You can use them to attach a draging roap, tow bar for a quad/snowmobile, add the rear ones can be uses to add a sled to tow. I also use the rear ones to hang it in the garage against the bottom of the roof/ceiling rafters during summer. ;)

LMAO Can't wait I would really like to make a trip up to HL this winter for some eyes! Now I just need to find someone that has a cabin on the lake so I can try this duct tape trick out and pass out on a warm floor!

For all you shanty chasers out there. I know Cabellas and probably some other more specialized stores sell shanty anchors. You drill a hole half way through the ice. Then the anchors go inside the holes and expand locking the anchors in the ice. Highly recommended unless you like chasin your shanty all day. I think a set of two was $15.00. Definately worth it if you spent any kind of money on a shanty.:coolgleam

sorry for the long post.
OK here is the skinny on staying put!! rope tied to you machine works OK also the hole and anchor works good but the shanty will move and it's heck getting it right....
go to lakeside and buy ice anchor bolts. they have a groove cut in them to allow the screw to go in easy. . they aren't expensive and work well.
bummer is you have to drill a hole in your shanty. Pick an up grove to drill. this will keep your shanty dry in water conditions. drill close to an edge so you can screw a anchor in before you lift your shanty in the wind. Once you have one deep in the ice, swivel the shanty out of the way and drill your holes. (((don't worry if you have the door type holes. set it where you want it and use the second ice anchor to scrape or score the ice. you will drill exactly where you want. OK one anchor in and the holes are drilled. now move the shanty over the holes. place a glove (wool) or carpet chunk under the shanty this will keep the shanty from spinning on the one bolt while someone is inside . now put he second bole in by hand. an ice scoop will ease taking them out. 2 or 4 anchors will do. Normally 2. If you have a long shanty forget setting it up with the wind to your back, go with the side. Pack ice on the wind side and your all set..
taking it down .. remove all bolts but the first one. fold down shanty swivel away from holes and pack . the last thing out is the last bolt.
windy weather wear ice spikes on you boots. Important. the shanty can pop open and you don't want to take a ride. It also makes it easy to drill holes with power or manual augers.
good luck fishing all, hope this helps. make sure your ice is land-locked if it's that windy and always keep an eye on the angle of your wind blown shanty for a change of direction. fish safe and keep lots:)
