THE BAIT SHOP GUY

Wow is all I can say about the fishing on the bay this season - almost worth the wait it took to get good ice!

Generally, there's about 10 inches of good ice North of Gladastone with only a couple inches of snow. Good travel for quads and sleds. They've started taking trucks out on the ice near Kipling and the far North end of the bay near the Days River. They'll probably be driving all over the upper bay by next weekend with the forecast cold temps this next week.

South of Gladstone, there's about 7 inches of ice as far south as the Terrace Motel. South of that, towards Escanaba, there's around 5 inches.

Walleye, perch, and pike activity has been excellent. Lots of good eating size walleyes are being caught, and the big girls have been showing up pretty regularly, too. Perch numbers and size continue to improve this year. Sure is nice seeing them make a comeback.

Here are a bunch of big fish that myself and the guys I fish with have taken over the last week, as well as a couple brought into the baitshop last weekend. With the exception of the baitshop fish, ALL these fish were released.

Customer Don Clark with a 32 1/2 inch walleye he caught on a large sucker.
