I know the tourney is going on, but why no reports from the east side? I've got my brother coming from Ohio with two buds and the pressure is on to get them some fish. I went out last sunday out of vanderbelt and the ice was good. We only got one fish on 8" of ice How about an ice report on Thomas and the bite? We are looking for eye's but not the dinks in the river. Thanks and good fishin!

The east side doesn't get the press like the west side does. Plus, the locals are very tight lipped. Callehan road is a good bet right now. Every year about this time you can do well out there. You need a machine, I have walked it, it sucks. Most locals go straight out 6 to 7 miles on the edge of the Callehan reef. We stumbled on this while hunting perch......About three, maybe four miles out, in 5 to 6 ft. there are limits of good sized walleye ! Guys would stop on thier way out to the reef and laugh at us, saying we needed to keep walking another couple of miles. On thier way back, when they stopped, they didn't leave laughing, as our buckets were often fuller than thiers. It is definately worth the trip out there if you like fishing the bay. There are a few pressure cracks to cross, but the ice doesn't blow out like the west side does. One thing, with the open watered hot ponds not far away, I would advise taking a GPS in case of a whiteout.Hope this helps you, it may anger a few of those tight lipped locals, but I believe there are enough fish out there for all of us.
