because they are some type of salmonoid from Europe but they would be neat to catch if they were here also.

Not sure what kind of feeding Characteristics they have or what they feed or would feed on.Honestly I cant remember where I found the pic of this fish at,it must have been on another site I was on.I managed to save the photo because I thought it was such a cool looking fish.

That wouldn't be a Chernobyl Char would it ;) .
Seriously, looks like it could have the potential of a fighting machine. But unless it eats gobies, zebras, ruffe's, etc. and is as tasty as a perch or walleye I think we should hold off until after the exotic invasion is over and then only if we've lost.
Cool looking fish though!

i think thats a taimen and if i'm right they are a mongolian (asia) primative salmonid (grows to be the largest salmonid in the world). almost extinct.

You are right on MSU. If they will eat asian carp that would be even better!

Read an article about Taiman once. These guys were fishing for them and ran accross some Mongolians who showed them what to use as bait. They (Mongolians) shot a ground hog and tied it on a pretty good sized hook and had at it. Caught some too.

a fine member from this site sent me a link about the Taimen that I would like to share with all those that as interested about them as I am.These fish eat about anything even asian carp probaly. We think the lake trout are eating machines?Bring on the Taimen they might have something to worry about and probaly taste better also:D Its too bad that out of all the foreign species that can be brought over here in ballast water from ocean going vessels that these cant be one of them. The only draw back is that they would proably be the only game fish in our waters if they were planted here either accidently or on purpose because they would eat our beloved chinooks, steelheads, browns, etc. It would be a sarifice to make catching 20lb chinooks or a fish that potentialy grow up to over 100 lbs.

These fish grow slower than lakers...after 5-7 years they are only 2-3 kg (5-7 lbs) and although they used to grow to 220 lb, now they are typically "only" 100 lbs. Chinook grow to 100 lbs in the Pacific but a 30 pounder is rare in Lake MI now. Lake trout grow to 70 pounds but most in Lake MI are much smaller. These fish live in fast moving rivers, not oceans or large lakes. Even if they planted them in our rivers, they'd probably wouldn't grow as big as the Chinook do, due to lack of adequate prey and fishing pressure.
