Getting ready to get some new boots. Anyone have an opinion on these boots? They are Cabelas brand infernos. I currently have some Kamik boots with the old fashioned felt liner. Had them over 20 years now. Time to buy some new ones for the next 20 years.

My feet get cold easily. The only boot I know of that has never let me down is the big white boots you get from surplus stores you can inflate that paratroopers use, some people call them mickey mouse boots.
Now I been in these for many years and have not tried any new products, but I know they've come a long ways in the past couple decades.
The thing is, these are what works for me so I have not tried anything else.
I had em nearly 20 years and just now I need a new pair cause the lining ripped in one, but that foot still does not get cold. It's just a pain to get on without the lining bunching up as I slip into it.
Thats what I got...

I've had those Kamik 14" rubber uppers for years,,,, I love 'em. Totally waterproof. My other pair I've had for even longer, made of fine Italian craftsmanship, BushMasters I think they are(Meijers). Covered in mink oil. I just buy liners for both pairs every few years or so.

This has probably been discussed as much as baiting, QDM, cougars or Rompola. The 2 winners are
1. Mickey Mouse boots
2. Lacrosse Ice Kings
With a slight edge going to the Mouse boots if you add up all the posts related to this when you perform a search on this site.
It is also unanimous that either of these are pretty much strictly sitting boots only. If you're walking warmth is not critical obviously. I got my Mickey Mouse boots on Ebay from A-Z army surplus for $25.00. My feet have never, ever been cold again. As a matter of fact in temps above the teens, my feet sometimes get hot.

Yeah they do come in black, and if at all possible, may even be warmer being black. I just have the white ones.

another vote for the mickey mouse boots. I have both the white (warmer and heavier) and the black (lighter, but still pretty dang warm). Use them for late season goose, deer and ice fishing and it's nice not ever having to worry about your feet getting cold.
If anything, the only downfall is that I usually wear my Rocky's as well if I'm going to be walking any significant distance because otherwise my feet will be all sweated up.

Mickey's! You can step through a hole fill'em up with water just pour it out and the Mickey's will still keep your foot warm. The white ones have more insulation in the insole. And best of all you can get them cheap off e-bay.

The basic rule for buying boots is that you always buy them at least TWO sizes larger than your foot size . The idea is called the " Warm Air Capture Principle " . This principle works like a charm , especially in this age of space age stuff in the liners . I know fellows who have purchased much less expensive boots and have no complaints about warmth and comfort in extreme conditions . Purchase the expensive boots if you must , but follow the "Two Size Rule " .

Another vote for the mickeys, use the white for fishing and the black for working. Never have gotten cold in them.

I know this is a very debated topic. I was looking for, and got, current opinion. I had not seen this thread THIS year. Don't really like the Mickey's, just personal preference there. I heard the Lacrosse Icemans were discontinued. I bought the Pedator Extremes last night. Very warm, but I would not want to walk far in them. I think that will be ok as I have other boots for things like rabbit hunting. I was told the Pedator Extremes are the warmest Cabelas boot they sell.
Thanks again for the opinions!

Love my Lacrosse. I find them pretty easy to walk in. Mickey's are fine if you are just sitting for a long period of time, but I don't like them to walk in. Best thing about my Lacrosse is I got them 2 summers ago on clearance at BPS. They had a misc. rack of boots right next to the door and happened to have these in my size for $39.99,I would have never forgiven myself if I passed that one up!

Since I wear a size 14 or 15 it's almost impossible to find a pair of boots to fit me. My niece gave me a pair of these overshoes for Christmas a few years ago. Superlight! Waterproof. Velcro closure with an adjusting strap for snugness. Slide over the shoes/boots you're wearing. Warmest boots I've worn yet.

I want to emphasize that these overshoes are extremely lightweight. I don't think they weigh a pound apiece.
Houghton Laker, I'm surprised you don't own a pair of these. Especially in your line of work.

I loved my Icemans, heard alot of good about the mickey's too, but they seemed a bit heavier. The Icemans never wore out ( I snow sealed them every two years) but left them on the porch one night and a ##$@@$ dog ran off with one of 'em, never did find it! About four years ago I bought the Rocky ice stalker with the flip out cleats for bare ice grip, they are a bit lighter than Icemans, toasty warm... and have held up pretty well. I rarely have more than a regular sock on with them.

Well, I took back the Pedator Extremes. The way the boot was cut it hurt my ankle after about 15 minutes. Glad I wore them around the house first. I replaced them for the Cabela's inferno 2000's. Nice lightweight boot that you can walk in too, 2000g of thinsulate. I think I'm good for another 20 years!
This kind of thread gets brought up every year. It seems the popular concensus is Lacrosse Icemans and Mickeys, from year to year those seem to be the most popular.

Boots....your opinion?
My opinion is that it is better to have them, than to not have them. :D
Good call on the Cabelas Infernos. Rated for -140 below, as long as they're comfortable on you, you won't have to worry about getting cold!

My vote is for the Mickey Mouse boots - Cheap, Waterproof etc.. My feet have never gotten cold. Smometimes I wear them with very thin socks and still have never been cold. Hit the local army surplus, try on a few pairs and you wont be sorry. The only down fall is that they are rather heavy.
Good luck..

I know I'm a little late on this, But in case anyone else is looking, I just bought these after a friend from Montana recomended them. Tried them out last weekend...NICE They are a bit pricey but I have a feeling that the 14" tops are going to save the day on last ice! They are made by a company called whites http://www.whitesoutdoor.com/ and they are called the yukon survivor P.S. You can keep your mickeys, you can actually walk in these!
