Wickes Park Ice Today

Went by Wickes Park today at 12;30 pm. and there is a 10 to 15 ft. channel of open water running from the river bend to about 120 yds. below [south ] of the boat launch . Two vehicles in parking lot and two shanties set up in front of launch . One shanty was about in middle of the river . The parking lot was nicely cleared.....I don't know if that is foresight or irony .

any ice at wicks that is smooth is fresh ice.Stay clear of that unless you spud your way out.Lots of spots on the river are not frozen yet.

When i went by yesterday ice looked baddddddd all i seen the whole stretch 0f the park was big chunks of ice all crushed up together I dont see how a guy could even pull a shanty out on that stuff let alone walk on it Worst ive see in in awhile.. Not sure how much of the river is like that but i know wickes park is .... :(

In response to "how much of the river is like that", pretty much down river past Ojibway and cleans up before the bean. Nastiest looking stuff. I'd pretty much say that if you wanted to break a leg or ankle, that stretch may be for you. Otherwise, anywhere from the bean to bay city has "regular" (not chunked up) looking ice. Always check it tho.
