I left the cover off my Nils auger when I put my sled in the garage, and look what happened. My son was putting a tool back in the toolbox and swung his hand into the auger blade. Five stitches in the mussel and seven to close the skin, lucky there is no nerve damage. I left the cover off intending on cleaning up the sled and organize things in a few hours. Stupid on my part.

I think I'll learn from your lesson and go out and put the cover on my auger.....it fell off as I was putting it away and I was lazy and just threw the cover in my bucket.

I once cut a brand new Sorel Boot first time wore about the same way.
All I could think of was the hurt that thing would have caused had I hit it a bit harder.

Look just like my right hand after the wrench slipped while changing the auger blade.

Those auger blades can be sharp, (and I'm speaking from experience) glad to hear it wasn't much worse!

Did you do the sewing? It turned out really nice, probably will not be noticable.

I always put the cover on after using my auger. recall tube jigs photos a few years back:yikes:
Anyhow the year after tube jig posted I was out with my power laser 10" auger. I put the cover on and forgot about it. a few hrs or beers later, I slipped and went down hard on the head of the auger. I hit it hard enough to make my ribs sore. Scary to think what would have happened if I left it un- covered.

Glad it wasn't worse. I almost opened up my wrist once cleaning ice off my blade on Lake Mitchell. It was a close one, and I learned from it.

How old was your son? From your picture it looks like he is older. It's too bad somebody got hurt. But it could have been your toddler son who got hurt instead. I got a new auger this year and the rubber strap that holds the guard on was broken in half. The guard won't stay on without it. Finally got a new one from the store I bought it. Only took 2 months to get it.

Those blades are razor sharp, and I have the scars on my hands to prove it from the few minor nicks when I was putting the cover on and slipped. Needless to say replace the cover after every use carefully. Glad your son didn't get injured more seriously. Although that was pretty bad. :yikes: :yikes: :( :(

Fishing Higgins off south sunken island. Found a school of dandys needed one more hole. Auger had some ice on the bottom so I smacked it with my hand (leather glove). Super ouch and the blood just never stopped. I couldn't leave as I was into the best sized perch on Higgins in a long time right. Every piece of equipment I had was soaked with blood. Finally just couldn't take it anymore. Had to get it treated. On the fishing side I ended with 23 dandys.

Ouch! That had to hurt when it started to throb. I don't think a surgens scalpel could be any sharper then the cutting head of a nils. Thank you for a very vivid reminder to always put our covers on our augers. I hope your son heals well and quickly.
