I just put Fireline Crystal on mine. So far I like it. I got the 1lb and 2 lb. versions.

Thats stuff sure is tuff and thin. Hope you got good close-up eye sight.

You need fluorocarbon. Once you switch to it you'll be amazed at all the strikes you were missing before.

I had a guy tell me about P-line at at a small bait shop and I got some of the Flouroice line and I love the stuff. It is coated mono instead of pure flourocarbon. I use the regular P-line the rest of the year and love the stuff. I have tried true flourocarbon line and I find it too stiff.
IMHO.

I like the Fireline Cystal too! I spooled up 2 rods one with Trilene ice line and the other with the fireline. I could break the Trilene with my hands. Had to cut the Fireline. It's tough stuff!

i like Berkley XL, Vanish in lighter # test, and P-Line Floroice. they all work well. not every lake or river is crystal clear, so flourocarbon line isnt always a must IMO.

a friend of mine loves Power Pro for icefishing whether its for walleyes or panfish. he just ties leader onto the end of it. increased feel in deep water, and is thinner for fishing current areas, such as the saginaw river etc...i have a couple rods spooled up with it, but havent had a good opportunity to really test it. i really like Power Pro for open water fishing, so i see no reason why it wouldnt perform well on the ice. it absorbs very little water, so it shouldnt freeze up on the spool like fireline does. plus, 8# Power Pro is equivilent to 1# mono diameter. its thin and tough.

out of all the lines i mentioned, i have gotten a few bad spools of vanish here and there. the problems i encountered were twisting problems coming right off the spool. it didnt matter what side of the spool i had facing up, when i wound it on, it was still all twisted up. it was just junk line. must have been old or a bad batch from the factory. i would lean more towards it being a bad batch because the store i purchased it from moves allot of merchandise.

i use fireline in the summer and like it..but it sucks for ice fishing.seems to freeze on the reel..tried some on a tip up and the next day i couldn't get it thawed enough to use.

have had good luck with 1 pound diameter(5 pound test) spider wire braid about 25 bucks for 100 yards spool for pan fish is a little expensive though.
2 pound test floucarbon works just as good although not as tuff as the braid line.

I'm a P-Line user year round now for the most part. I have some Cajun line on a couple of my ice rods from last year and found I like it for night fishing, easy to see on the ice/snow and really cant say its better or worse than using clear line, catches the same amount of crappies! ;)
