Last summer we hooked a salmon that stayed on the bottom after it popped the rigger. Thought is was a monster. When we got it in the boat (2 pounder) it had about a 6 inch square of gill net wrapped around its mouth and the hooks were in the mouth too. Im not sure what happend here but it was odd. I think the fish had the net on him before he hit the spoon. If the spoon got in the net we would have known it.
Another time we got snagged in a ghost net on the bottom. We worked the rigger cables up and down trying to free them. When i looked over the side of the boat there was a whitefish flopping around on the surface. After we cut our stuff all off  we netted the whitefish.:D I know sunken, vandelized, or abandoned nets still fish. This was the proof.
anybody else see anything like this?
