I've fished Iron several times through the ice and several from a boat. I've never done well there. That actually proves nothing though! It is a beautiful little lake with lots of weeds but also deep areas and sandy flats and points. I've seen the flats pocked with hundreds of bluegill beds and it is connected by channel to Wampler's so there must be some good fish in there.

You sound familiar with the area but if not there is a public/county/township? access to the right off Egan Hwy. You turn off 12 North at the K of C or whatever the larger building on the corner is that has pancake breakfasts. Another good thing is Jerry's Pub is right down the road as is ice fishing on Wampler's! I've been skunked on Wampler's but never had a bad meal at Jerry's! I'd also suggest having a map especially to work the area near the sand flats. There are some nice depth changes there! The MI DNR has maps organized by county online. Good luck, be careful, and post results/ice conditions!

All I am going to say about Iron Lake is to work the shore near the church. I have never fished it through the ice, but have done very well:fish2: there in the boat!

I agree on the church/graveyard area...

plus if its windy, you will kind of be in a bowl = little protection
good luck and let us know how ya did!
