Has anyone been fishing out there, if so for walleyes or perch? i heard that people fish out of that boat launch in the summer and do good. any advice would be great.

straight out from finn rd is open water from the flow from the hotponds.
I fished out past the open water all day yesterday in 12 foot, I seen some walleye in the crystal clear water but no takers.
it is a good thing for gps we would not have made it in safley last night without one.
trying to navigate back in when the snosquals kick up you cant see your old tracks or the shoreline, worst yet you can not see the open water from the hot ponds.
the last 2 days we have been riding from jones rd (friends house) along the shore to callahan rd then out 3 miles we then go west from there.
the ice is starting to look descent on that side around 6 inches in most spots.
if you fish in that area you need to know about the hot ponds it has taken several fishermans lives in the past.

follow this link and scroll down til you see Saginaw Bay on the right, and look at the bottom of the bay and you will see a black circle, and a black line. This is the "HOT PONDS" Consumers uses water from the bay to cool their equipment, and sends the warm water to the POND, and it NEVER FREEZES. The Black line you see from the pond is a cut that goes out into the bay, and that NEVER FREEZES either. If you ride out here, DON'T HUG THE SHORE LINE.
Finn Rd. is about 2 miles east of the hot ponds, and has a parking lot, and ramp to access the bay. Be careful.

My post concerned the hot ponds, and it was meant to caution others to the dangers around the hot ponds, and the cut out to the bay. I appreciate your concern. Those of us that know the area at the end of Jones rd, know the dangers, I just wanted others to know that these dangers exist.

the DNR should post a warning at Jones rd -finn rd that there is open water to the west due to the hot ponds. i'm sure some guys not from the area are unaware of the open water.

I agree with posting danger signs.
I think consumers should do it.
the stories that I have heard of when people go in the open water, are most go in coming back in from fishing getting turned around and not being able to see from darkness or blowing snow.

Exactly that's why you should use GPS. Daytime running is easy to use the water towers on Knight and Farley, but at night or even in the daytime with a whiteout it's hard to navigate.

my new H2OC is what guided us back in 2 nights ago. we could not see our tracks or anything more than 100 feet away.
I mounted it right behind the handle bars, very handy tool.

i probally wont fish out there anyways beacuse i would be walking and it sounds to be quite a walk. i never realized that the warm water was that close . thanks for the info and i still might try one of these days. to tell you the truth i found that spot on accident one day in dec. looking for cuts for perch. just looked good for ice fishing. ive heard that side of the bay is some good fishing. but ill have to try it out the summer in the boat and do some trolling out there.
