I was fishing Reeds Lake tonight for crappie in about 40 fow out in front of the Community Center. I was doing pretty well until I lost my secret lure on something on the bottom. It seemed like a cable or pipe. I could just barely budge it with 2lb before it snapped me off. It was not a fish. I was wondering if you locals know what it was.

Big water pipe, about 10 foot off the bottom (or so), extending straight out from the fire station there. You can pick it up on a Vex and you'll usually see guys lined up the whole length of it if you pay attention. Fish usually hold imediately above or below the pipe and is the reason you see so many guys out there.

That particular area has a lot of history, since it was the site of an amusement park until 1954 (Ramona Park) and the Navy pier. I understand it was quite the place before it became respectable. Can't help but wonder what else lies under the mud on the bottom.

Actually there are two pies that come out in a V. I've lost several lures to them. Last year, I think Kush was there, some guy had on a big fish and his line went straight down even when the fish ran. Obviously, it was going under the pipe which must have been straight below....eventually the line broke...was exciting while it lasted!

I hear there are a lot of piano parts that were dumped around that lake because it use to be a swamp around it.

So how was the ice on Reeds? Thinking about heading out there some time this week if I get time.

So thats what I caught my anchor on last fall ! I have electric anchor winches and it wouldn't lift the anchor, so I grabbed the rope but couldn't budge it! After firing up the motor and moving to different angles, I finally got it free!
My parents used to go to Romona Park and still have some of the cranival glass stuff they won there (bowls, glasses ect)
I hear theres a sunken paddle wheel boat out there? Anyone know where?

Yes, I verified with Kent County divers. It is more or less straight out in front of Roses Restaurant in deep water.

this turned out to be a pretty interesting thread

I did a search to see if i could get smarter on this boat. I could not find a thing on it. Then again there are only a few reeds lakes in the world. I did look on Roses website and there were some decent size paddle boats that roamed that lake. Anyone find a link on it?

Check out this book (http://www.amazon.com/Heart-Soul-Story-Rapids-Neighborhoods/dp/0802839010/sr=8-7/qid=1170266328/ref=sr_1_7/103-3167474-5276613?ie=UTF8&s=books), has a whole chapter on Reeds.
Wow that is pricey at $150. I hope i read that right. There is a lot on that page about everything and anything.

Isn't fisk lake connected to Reeds by a channel? could you walk from reeds to fisk on the ice without tresspassing?

Sid's been on and reporting at least, my pregnant wife has a problem letting me out of the house right now or I'd give a report:rant: , and I've never seen that channel freeze over safe. Reeds has only been safe for about a week now with a few reports in the forum.

Would like to try fisk myself. Had my kayak in there through the channel and caught tons of small crappie but i'm sure there are schools of big ones too. Looks like the lake is pretty deep at 60 feet if i read that right.

Reeds was slow for me, however seems to be producing for others. i. e. "kid in the ranger"s half bucket full of "slabs". I hope that's what's coming out. I guess I'll find out tommorow.
good luck guys...Sid
