I stopped by Newburg today as well. Didn`t fish but just wanted to get an idea on the thickness of the ice. Poked the spud thru and got 4 to 5 inches. Some softer spots near the spring at the first turn in west of Newburg road but no problem with the ice being safe. I`m gonna hit it wed if the wind isn`t howling too bad. It`s brutal cold out there without a shanty. Any more reports would help. I`ll post when I go fer sure.

The gills and crappies here are mostly stunted and definitely not edible
since this is an impoundment of the rouge river.
It does have some lunker largemouth, some decent pike and some
big cats that have done well since the cleanup/restock.

That was the first lake I ever fished. My dad use to take me their when I was little ( back in the 70s) before the lake got polluted  I heard they had cleaned it up over the last several years.

Had some great memorys of me and my dad fishing their in the summers of the 70s. My dad passed away when I was young but he left me with his love for fishing.

Do they still catch big pike from that lake? Before the drainage and sediment removal project they used to back in the 80`s.After the project and restocking they put a little bit of everything back in the lake even trout.I dont think that they last long in there though.

Well me and RyGuy525 went down this afternoon action was steady. RyGuy525's friend caught a decent size bass. They were still down there when I left (Had to go back to work).

Polluted oh yeah I remember black muck frozen into the top of the ice.Guys were out there with tipups fishing for pike and catching them.I told my cousin who was long time resident of the area and she couldnt believe it.I have only fished once since they did the project to clean the contaminated bottom sediment and I didnt catch anything. The water did look alot cleaner though.

While i fished with jeremy we were catching fish but my buddy and I's hands got frozen so we moved down to the Newburgh road acces where we would be sheltered by the wind. Only caught one bluegill there and it was a runt. Too bad the wind whipped up we would have caught more.

Jeremy,
Next time you head down there, give me a holler. I have been working right through lunch most days, but I could use a break. I saw a bunch of kids shoveling off the snow for a hockey rink between the Yacht Club and the park today on the way home from work.

RyGuy525

Did you see 2 other kids fishing? That was me and my buddy we were about 50 yards away from there rink. Even had a puck come close to going in one of our holes:lol:

On hines drive off of Newburgh rd. There are 2 main access points that I know of. The first one is right by the sheriffs office. My Buddy and i fished there a while yesterday and were standing on a solid 3 inches of ice. The second is just a little farther down on Hines and where Jeremy and I fished had a solid 4-5 inches of ice with a lot of bluegill.

Good to meet you and the rest of the folks, too. Jeremy (Springer4ever) managed to land one before we left. I had a couple hits, but missed them. Ryan had one steal his waxworm. Not any hot action, but was nice to get out of the office. Shametamer and Ryan were still on the ice when we left. Definitely going to have to do it again.

Finch, the auger works great, thanks.

Well shametamer may be exagerating a bit but i did figure a little something out. The fish were up higher in the water comlumn. I caught i think 7 and missed a few more. Really lite bit again. It was a pleasure meeting everyone out there today. I hope to do it again sometime! Brdhntr I'm going to hold you to that handlining trip!:D

I think I am just starting to feel my ears. Standing out in that wind for 10 - 15 minutes with no hat was brutal. Always great to meet some more members of the site and see shametamer again. I hope no one grows a third arm from touching anything in that water. I'll try it when the weather is a little warmer, like from a float boat in the spring. Springer4ever and brdhntr, thanks for the purchases.

See, if we had cut a trench in the ice and trolled for them, I would have tore them up, too! :D

My deer hunting trip to Ohio got cancelled today. Waiting for the wife to get back with my boots I left in the van and heading out to Waterloo to see if the fish are froze to the bottom or biting.

Ryan, definitely will get you out. I'm not the best expert on it, but we boat our share of fish.

New motor came in yesterday. UPS dropped it and broke the prop. The last 6 packages brought in by them have been damaged.

Thats sucks about your motor! Time to find a new carrier if they've done that over and over again. Good luck out there today its going to be COLDDDDDDD.

YogiHunter

Yeah, I went out Sunday afternoon and ran out of waxies. We even caught a couple of 11 perch along with all the gills and crappies. A really good spot to bring the kids. I am looking at bring a buddy and his son this coming weekend if the temperature isn't a killer.

Where did you fish, over by the police horse barn or by the bathroom house.
The last time I was there me and my son fished by the barn and caught
alot but were small. The biggest perch I've ever seen was caught there
in the summer by lady useing a worm.So I know they are there, just never
saw them in the winter!!!

YogiHunter

We went out by the bathrooms in 11 feet of water by the river bed that runs through there. I was hoping to find the slab crappies that they say are out there but no luck all the ones we caught were 8" at the biggest.
