Thinking about picking up some rods holders and was wondering what is the best rod holder for the money? I really like the berts, but they are pretty pricey......Thanks.....Mack

Check the Big Jon Site, and contact John Williams about some factory blems.
I picked up some Multi Set rod holders that looked VG to me for $40 each. Here is a link to their site. A fishing pal has them on his boat also. We use them for Dipsys as well as PBs.:)

Get ones that are One-Handed Operation. As you are setting a diver with one hand, You can adjust the hold with the other. The quicker you get lines in the water, the faster you have an oppertunity to put fish in the boat.
Personally, I like the Big Jon's

I don't know if this helps, but I have the Ram flush mounts on my boat and I love them, the rod holders remove easily. I think they were about $20 each. My BIL used to fish a lot of pro walleye tourneys and a lot of the guys there have them on their boats.

The Rams may workout fine for Walleye. But I wouldn't use them for Dipsys and King Salmon.

during the ultimate fishing show ESOX and i talked to both bert's and traxstech reps (the systems are nearly identical)-- i mentioned to the traxstech guy that i had a base on a trolling tree strip out, his immediate response was to take my name,# and address and asked me to send the part back and he would replace it free of charge(except shipping)--he stated that they stood behind what they sold and that "they didn't make junk!"--when Paul talked to the bert's rep about a problem that he had with his trolling set-up the rep responded"oh, yeah; we're working on that"(indicating that they knew they had a problem) and didn't offer to give him any help in correcting that problem--for my money i'm going back to traxstech in the near future

Homemade ones out of pvc pipe. They work great. All you need to do is get the correct size pvc for your rod. The you can fab them up. You use a 45 degree elbow so you can mount it to the boat.

Steelhead, Musky, no but I have caught yellow tail off the coast of Cali on a boat that had homemade rod holders out of pvc pipe. I don't know how to make them but I have seen them and been on boats that had them. I fish mainly small inland lakes catching blue gill and small mouth. I am not that big on fishing. Sorry Slick.

Yep, and all he had to do to keep this from being a topic here was replace the couple of screws that had a problem he knew existed. Traxstech didn't even ask how Ramlundmans problem happened, just said we back up out products. Next time, Traxstech.
