there is some ice out there, but not where it usually is by this tiem every year. most places that are usually fished for walleye cannot be fished. when you get into some of the coves, there is obviously a little more ice but there is no good ice out there right now. i would say 90% of the ice on the backwaters right now is unable to be walked on. if you go on hodenpyl dam road, and some might know where the siloh is, there is some better ice there but only about 4 inches, and that is in the shallow flats. i wouldnt venture out there right now unless you are extremely familiar with the place and way the ice is there. a couple of my relatives have been fishing one walleye spot, and caught a few, but mind you not there was some open water within a hundred yards of them. if you are fimiliar with the campground/boat launch on the backwaters,(Northern EXposure) i ran that for 5 years and lived on the water, so i have seen it go from 10+ inches of ice to open water in less than 8 hrs!! BE SAFE. . ANYWHERE YOU GO!!
