I ended up with 24 perch and 3 gills. Size was 8 to 10 inches. Neighbor ended up with 15 perch same size. Started at Sunny Shore catching gills and crappies and ended up at Bayshore marina right next to the DNR launch catching the perch. Next time we are taking minnows also instead of just waxmorms. We saw a guy kick butt on some dandies with just a plain hook and minnow. Halis was the ticket for us in Chart. color. We also caught a lot of 6" white bass in Bayshore. Why is it people can't put the small white bass back not just leave them wasting on the ice, people must have caught a lot of these the last couple of days and left them scattered all over the ice.
Question you have these 2 marinas right next to each other there. Sunny Shore the Gills and Crappies are the prodominate species you will catch there. Bay Shore right next door your prodominate catch is perch and white bass species. Depth is about the same just can't figure why these 2 marinas are species oriented by seperate ones.

Hey baydog, I was wondering if there was any size or numbers to the gills and crappie ? Also where abouts from the the launch area did you find them ? I have done well in past years for perch in both marinas, it seems to be hit or miss, usually a couple dozen a day is normal. Have even gotten an occasional walleye. Try this out, When the ice is good enough....proceed up river from the DNR launch along the shore, just before, or under the power lines head towards the middle of the river. It is a big rocky/gravel flat. Get in 4-6 feet of water. At times slab perch will come out of the channel to forage in the gravel.Hit or miss, but when they are there, it can be phenominal. You can tell you are on top of the gravel with a flasher unit, or by simply lowering a metal tape measure and feeling them.

Found the gills and crappies in the back of Sunny shore marina tight to the docks. The size was not too big only hand size or a little bigger but enough to get fillets out of them. We do get bigger gills and some slab crappies out of there thou. Guy was actually telling me about some of the slab perch they get at the rivermouth during midday. Thanks

yep walk around the shore, there was a little water on top of the ice at shore but I'm sure that froze solid by now.

Baydog,
Did you mean you were fishing at Bay City Yatch Club and Sunset Shores?

If those are the 2 right next to the DNR launch then them are the ones. I've always heard them as the other names, never really looked at the signs too busy rubbernecking to see if anybody is fishing or not. Summer time too many other distraction sitting on top of the boats.:D

Hey baydog, i'm curious, how did you get into the marina next to the dnr launch ? did you get in by going down the dnr launch, around the fence onto the ice, then up and over the rocks ,then off a dock ? Or did you walk right up the mouth of the marina from the other cut with the gills ? thanks for the info.

Yah we entered from the DNR around the fence and over. On the way out we walked the edge of the river to the launch. There was a little water under a crust of shore ice but that should have froze up solid by now thou.
