I'm going to fish Whitehall/Muskegon tonight. But I haven't heard anything good or bad about either. Last I heard about the perch they were doing pretty good by the sand docks. The ones I seen caught looked pretty small, but they were L. MI perch. People don't seem to talk about the walleyes as much, but as soon as a couple are caught there will be a hundred boats a night in and out of those pierheads. But being the positive guy I am, I'm taking a big stick tonight to beat the 10lbers out of the boat.

Fished Muskegon lake last Saturday (13th)...caught around a hudred perch, kept 30. had trouble keeping the gobi's off the hook. Wigglers and minnows, wigglers were preferred. Ran out to the big lake to try out the new X-15 and saw nothing but bare bottom. A few trollers by the pierhead, but they were getting blanked. Big crowd right by the channel mouth, everyone was hitting perch, but there was a whole lot of sorting going on.

GO buy some MOUSIES from Shoreline Services !!!!!
I was out off the pack where chrisl was talking about..
10-4 on the Gobies!!... We Kept 42 we only tossed about 5-6 dinker perch back... I'm glad we didn't "snuggle" right up to the flotilla that was there!! I'd say we were 1/4-1/2 mile from the rest of the pack... NOTHING under 7" into our box for sure!! 46 FOW -
probably 8-9" avg. NOTHING over 11"
Lotsa nice eaters & we even got a few of those 'white perch' (not great lakes run , light colored yellow perch - but the intruder species many folks mistake as a white bass)
See here ... http://www.seagrant.wisc.edu/greatlakesfish/bassorperch.html

SFW...you are right, that X15 is unbelievable. The picture was so clear you could watch the gobi's push those little perch out of the way to munch those wigglers. Thanks for the tip on the mousies, we are going to try again on Saturday. you probably didn't notice us last week, had my camo on, looked like a big shrub on the bow of a Crestliner.

Spring fishing sprucing up

Now is the time to take advantage of the spring fishing rush.
A variety of fish have been hitting in area lakes and rivers, including perch, steelhead, suckers, brown trout and inland panfish.
The white-belly perch being caught out of the 65-foot depths of Lake Michigan has generated the most excitement. Several anglers reported taking jumbos that exceeded the 14-inch mark.
Of course, those catches were made earlier in the week before the winds came up. However, the fish may still be tightly schooled when the fishing conditions again become more favorable.
Most of the perch were being caught straight out from the channel, but some good catches were being taken off the Hamilton Reef. Minnows and mousies have been good baits, but wigglers, wax worms and eyes can be effective as well.
When the conditions are too windy to fish the Big Lake, try the deep water at the west end of White Lake. Although they aren't as big, you'll catch more than enough perch in the 7-9 inch class to make a good meal.
The bluegill action on White Lake also has been hot.
Limit catches of panfish in the 7-9 inch class are being made from the shore (Lyons Den, city marina and Wesley's Marine) and from small boats. Wax worms under a small float work well.
The docks at the White Lake city marina also are producing catfish (crawlers) and crappie on minnows. You might also try around the tannery bay for some after-dark crappie action.
The steelhead fishing has been hot on the upper White River as many fish are now bedding and many more are holding in the deep pools just below the gravel runs. Try using a wiggler or egg fly. The upper stretches of the Muskegon River and Pere Marquette are also good at this time.
Before the winds came up, there was some excellent trolling action in the 8-15 foot depths of Lake Michigan. Most of the fish being caught are brown trout or small coho salmon. Both body baits and spoons are being used.
The suckers are going strong on the White River (County Line Bridge area), Crockery Creek, the Grand River and lower Muskegon River. Try using gobs of worms tight to bottom.
Several of the radio-tagged sturgeon netted on Muskegon Lake have been working their way upstream. Thus far, Muskegon Mary -- the 125-pound female caught late last week -- is still waiting near the river mouth.
Pier anglers are taking a few brown trout and an occasional coho on cut spawn and floater spawn bags. Small spoons also can be effective.
The catfish action is picking up. Try the city marina at White Lake, near the river mouth (watch out for the DNR research nets) on Muskegon Lake and in the deep holes around Indian Channel on the Grand River.
Grand Haven professional walleye angler Jeff Russell captured first place in the Wal-Mart RCL Walleye Circuit held on the Detroit River. In addition to the $50,000 first-place prize, Russell took home a new Ranger boat.
Russell was fishing near a warm-water discharge with chartreuse and orange jigs tipped with minnows. His five-fish limit catch tipped the scales at over 37 pounds.

Had a buddy go out of Muskegon last night . Ended up with one 4 to 5 pounder . He said they did mark some bait fish along with a few larger ones .They had a couple other bites but only took home the one .Water temp was in the low to mid 50's . I'm guessing the eyes pretty much back out in the lake . Hoping to get out sunday to do alittle perch jerking ? Maybe We'll find a few to bring home ??
