I found some mink tracks today now that there's some ice in the marsh. I'll keep watching him to see if he's working a route over and over but are there any ways to trap him on top of the ice? He seems to be going from hut to hut in the marsh like he's checking for rats. I didn't back track him yet 'cuz I was putting out another 20 traps and didn't have time. Tomorrow I have to move a dozen traps now that I can move farther into the marsh but will keep an eye out for his tracks.;)

If you continue to see his tracks on the ice checking rat houses, you could set up a few 110's in small boxes and cover them a little to mimick a small rat house.Use a chunk of muskrat in the back of the box for bait and maybe a little mink gland for some extra smell.I've never tried it, but it might work like a charm.

That would probably work well. I'll have to give that a try. I want to check his tracks some more and try to get a good idea of his regular movements to better target him. Since this is first ice he may just be moving randomly right now.

I found a dead grouse yesterday on top of the ice but no tracks. When I checked it today it was eaten but again no tracks because all the snow had been blown away. It wasn't torn apart so I'm guessing a mink found it. Yesterdays tracks were all blown away with no new ones today. We started getting snow today as I left the marsh so I might be able to track him around tomorrow.
