The canadian side, (ontario) for my canadian brothers, of the Detroit River is heating up fast!! Got out today and picked these up handlining in less than a hour. It was none stop action over there. #7 chartruse and #11 lakeside special, since I don't know what else to call it. That piece of plastic is 25 inches wide, the fish on top is 5.7lbs and the last is 3.9lbs. Weight is by berkley handheld digital scale.

Well there goes my theory, only half the pressure on this side!

Water is finally cleaning up, should be gang buster's on this side until the next blow out! Be a good time to check out around the salt mine's.

Remember 4 fish limit on this side until may 1, and the local boy's in blue are checking for lic's, now that the mnr is on strike.

Sorry Hunter, didn't mean to give up the info to mess you up or nothing, and I do know that the fishing on your side of the river is fantastic. I've been fishing that side of the border for 35yrs and for that time I've spent more time over there than on our side. As for the limit of 4 thus the pic has just that. And you are correct about the locals, we had a group of 7 boats can. and u.s. that got together on the marine radios and went for lunch at Duffy's Tavern, after we all made the call to let the proper personel know that we were on canadian soil the boys and girls in blue were there in a heart beat to check us out. All legal and no problems.

Big river,,, I can always find a little hole to fish!!!

It is amazing the difference in pressure one mile and a $50 lic. make! Ive been kind of worried to fish the u.s. side this year, and the water on this side is finally clean!!!

Thanks for the report Walleyeman830. I am thinking of heading down tomorrow morning to fish the upper portion of the river near LSC. Sounds like the water is cleaning up. I have the wire stuff packed but would you reccomend bringing the jigging equipment as well? Probably should, I've been out there pulling wire when the water was really clean and the jiggers smoked me.

Gone Fishing,
Got a report that a buddy and his brother picked up 7 nice one's
from the RenCen to the Joe yesterday morning on orange/black jigs with no tail and real minnows.
Hope it helps.
Later,

Gone Fishing.
Saturday from what I could see the jiggers were catching more that the handliner near the trailer park. Althought a friend caught four real early until the rain got too bad.

On Sunday in the fog, we tried both handlining and jigging. More action on the jigs. Watch out for the musky, caught 1 and hand 4 break me off over the week-end.

Hotwired,

Thanks for the info you gave me and my dad on Sunday morning. We were in the 16' gray boat that was fish close to shore in front of the trailer park. Gonna give it a try Friday night.

Hotwired, Tony1, thanks for the info. I'll report my results after the trip! Those Muskies sound like fun. I have caught quite a few in the river. When they 1st hit, you think it's your wallhanger and then they take off and you realize it's one of those slimy toothy critters! Thanks again!

Thinking of hitting it this weekend. With 2 days of a strong SW wind, will that muddy up the US or Canadian side? Thanks.

Dont worry about mud, its clean and fishable!! If you find a mudline so much the better!

Both sides will ge good. Southwest winds make area's of the river rough, but the fishing alway's explode's when we have a real warm southwest wind for a few straight days in april.

I took a ride along the entire length of the Canadian side today, only place I didnt see people pulling in fish was the sturgeon hole. Too many muskie's hanging out maybe. I know I was sick of them a couple day's ago!

Canadian Hunter,

Your exactly right! Some of the best fishing starts when the trees are budding fully.
