Looking for a good outboard mechanic in the downriver area. My Mercury 115 (Tracker Marine) seems to be spitting oil out the exhaust. Doesn't do it constantly, but when it does the motor runs very rough. Any suggestions appreciated.

need a compression test. when is it doing this when the engine is cold or when it is hot. How many hours are on the engine. I live in willis and I believe that huron twp is not that far from me. if you would like I can stop by and take a look at it for you and give you a better idea of what might be wrong.

I use Marine Masters on Jefferson in Wyandotte.

It seems to happen when the engine is semi-cold...i.e. after I've been on the water for a while, then start it in order to move to another area. It also happened when I was running it in the driveway to winterize. When it does occur it creates an oil slick and runs so rough the engine dies if I try to put it in gear. So far each occurrence has eventually cleared up, then the engine runs okay, but I'm sure its a sign of worse things to come.

The motor is a 1997 and I'm guessing I might have put 150 hours on it in the last 5 years.

Willis isn't very far, I'll send you a pm. Thanks for the offer.

Gunrod - thanks for the info, I'll keep them in mind.

no problem, I can't tell you what is wrong with it by your description of problems. As they can be a number of things that can cause the problems you are describing. But I would be more then happy to take a looky and give you a good idea of what is wrong. You could have fouled plugs, gummed up carb, dead cylinder, bad seals, burnt rings I can go on and on what might be wrong but with out seeing the engine or hearing it run, I can only guess. Shoot me a pm if you would like and I can go from there.
