My father and I went out wading off Point Lookout yesterday. We fished from about 3:00 until 9:30 throwing thundersticks, rapalas, and spoons. Neither of us even had a strike. The dudes in boats were getting quite a few and boy, were there a lotta boats out! I think the problem was that we, in waders, couldn't get out far enough to where the fish were located. I could cast a 7/8 ounce Pixee spoon that far, but I was still right on the edge of where the boats were fishing. :(
No smelt either from what we saw. Granted, we left before the run usually starts, but several people I talked to had been out the nights previous and gotten squat. (One guy dipped for 3 hours and ended up with 2 whole smelt.) I think the water's still too cold. We're supposed to get rain this week, while it's still warm. Hopefully, that will get em started.
