Hi Mini and Welcome. Do you run the Lake St. Clair Network Board? I go there on occasion but I'm not much of a Bass fisherman although I enjoy catching them. My 8 year old son got a 22 in. Smallie last fall and you should have seen the smile on that kids face!

Did you know that the DNR used to use the north end of Stoney (n of 28 mile road) as a bass rearing pond? There are some toads in there, but a ton of carp too! I took my rowboat up there before (under the 28 mile bridge) and saw enough carp that you could walk across the water....and the biggest snapper I have ever seen! It stuck its head out of the water and hissed at me!!!!!!!!

I never knew that...Cool Mini!

Yes I’m here too, Mini. I’m just biding time until the 6-15. I saw your pics you posted, nice toads. Do you pump those fish with roids after they get to BPS? Just kidding.

Mini
04-19-2002, 03:29 PM
Roids? no way man I save that stuff for my baits! lol

It was an incredible day, foggy so I could sit on em without being bothered.....I got to use the scientific collectors permit issued by the DNR for the store in order to keep fish for the tank. I caught fish after fish on a little ditch adjacent to the shipping channel. Never caught a fish there before or since! I had to stop fishing after that 6.4 hit, cause I had way too many fish in the boat (wasnt releasing them for fear of spooking the school). Every cast the fish got bigger, I should have made one more cast so I could get that 7 pounder that I know is out there....

I did get a replica of the big one after she died. Bass Pro Shops in Springfield wanted the fish to make a mold out of for future mounts. They made me a sweet replica on driftwood free of charge and also put one in the new Museum they built next to the main store in Springfield. The fish was over 8 pounds.....

Also for the record......I do take fish to Bass Pro Shops often. The ride in the livewell, or my truck in an areated tub has little effect on the fish if they are ni good shape prior to heading that way. Alot of the fish you see in that tank were caught by me or off of my boat over the last few years. The pike keeps eating the crappie....I need to get some more fish up to them soon. Perhaps we can get out together and take some up there! I am still waiting for my boat.....

I just got done "re-building" mine last week. Only a few minor non-essentials left to do. I don't have the benefits of a boat sponser like you big dogs so maintance is never ending. Fishing St. Clair you become a pretty decent mechanic. Swapping plugs or re-building trolling motors in 4-footers is great experience! You know the drill.

We should go out sometime, put some of the past behind us. I know little about crappie on St. Clair but willing to gas it up. I just recently moved to Lake Orion and lake is only a few miles down the road. Can't wait to start fishing that lake again too.

Mini
04-20-2002, 08:10 PM
I consider the past behind us already Alex. Us "big dogs" are without boats more than with them in the Spring.....but I know the drill only too well. That lake will break whatever you run on her......

I am free in the evenings for crappie on Clair. Headed out tomorrow morning to see if I cant get a meal or two then I am headed to Elizabeth Park for the GNT Walleye weigh-in.

weekdays nights are still tough. bowling two night until first of may, coaching daughters softball team and son has baseball practice also. remember those days. Hye just sold boat to dad and took it to coldwater today. Said he ran into your mom a while back at vfw hall. anyways back to topic. So weekends are a possibility and sometimes i can gpo during day,if im sick :)
since i have 93 of those sick things, i dont blink about doing a fishing thing for it.
i usually look at weather and determine from that. if im sick its usually on a nice day-real weird thing.

Are you working?

whats good for you?

st clair?
det river?
erie?

Mini
