I need some help with dog proof coon traps. Dose anybody have some photos of a little griz or a coon cuff set out? What types of setups do you use when setting these? Do you bury the trap? Traps like the Little Griz, is it possiable to bury? I have a few spots I have to use this kind of trap and also wanted to know the best one to buy for the money. Thank for any help.

Kevlar,

I have never used any coon cuffs, but I am sure that they would work great.

In the fall it would be easy to set them in the ground, but I don't know if freezing ground will cause the trap to fail to trip or not.

I am sure that we have some trappers on our forum that can answer your questions.

Good Luck!

Here is a lil grizz with a coon in it. I don't have pics of them set, but follow me here. On the back of the grizz, there is the loop of steel the swivel/chain attaches to. That is welded to the grizz itself. All I do is put a large marshmellow on the trigger inside the grizz. Then shove the loop in the ground at an angle, put another marshmellow in the hole to keep rain/snow out, and you're done. Put a few marshmellows on the ground around the set, and if the coons come that night, you'll have one in the grizz. I've seen pics where guys bury them with just the hole visible, but I don't think that is necessary. Rarely have I had any of mine cleaned when using a marshmellow. And if one does get away, the next night he's usually caught after rebaiting.

Nice, Real nice. :D Thats exactly what I wanted to know. I got to get a few on the way. I have a couple spots I have permission to trap but have houses pretty close and don't want to risk a dog catch. Thses will work just great. Just a good tool to have for some of those "special" situations.

Thanks
Kevlar

you can also set 220 or 160 in buckets in trees as well
