Are you talking about the opening for catch and release or regular season. If you are talking about regular, I think its May 26th this year, then it will depend on the conditions. If its cooler the fish may be shallower and less active. We go every year in June and on the warmer days you can see bass jumping out of the lake all over. When the fish are active like that use spinner baits, rattle traps and topwaters. Those are all good bets. We usually catch the bigger fish, 4-5lbs, along the deeper main channel throwing spinner baits and cranks. Look at the jacks landings website for a map of the lake to see where the channel runs. There are also alot of stumps and trees that provide good holdings for bass. On the cooler days texas rigged soft plastics and weedless jigs are good also. Any where from the middle of the lake to the NW to SW ends of the lake hold lots of bass. You should catch plenty of fish. Good luck and look out for those stumps.:)

That time of year you should have more lure options since it won't be so choked with weeds. Early season I've had luck with smallies just off the public lauch before the river channel. Also if you head sort of NW of Brown's North Shore Resort you encounter a minefield of stumps. Have had great luck there.
A-1 Woods and Water in Hillman sells spinners with dual willow blades that are painted various colors on one side. Don't know the name but we call 'em Lowell Lunkers and they produce well. Black is always a popular color with the buckets. Crankbaits should work well that time. As always with Flecther's bass fishing be prepared to catch your share of gators. They should be nice and mean and bend a few spinners on you.
What I'd be interested in hearing is what type line and test people use at flecther's. Personally, I've always used fireline neon green 14lb test with (i think) a 8lb diameter. Reasoning being wanting something heavy for pulling 'em out of cover and the big pike since I don't use leaders. A buddy of mine went to the Novi show and heard if your Bassin' then Flurocarbon is the way to go. I'm always open to ideas. What do you use?

I will be going Memorial weekend.I just want to thank you guys for your help first of all.I use 8-10 Fireline on a Pfluger Presidential or Medilist on a 7ft med action Berkley Lighting rod.I fished Fletchers last year for the first time and I love it.Memorial day weekend was our first trip out we decided to try and save money and rent a boat only and I brought my trolling motor.I felt like an idiot when we got to the middle of the lake and lost power. On the second trip I caught a crappie, perch, blue gill, smallie, largemouth and a pike in the first hour.I was very happy.Till I got a big Northern up to the boat and lost my only Firetiger Rattel trap.We didnt have any luck till later in the day when along the deep channel we found some nice weed beds and started throwing some spinnerbaits. Its amazing when the water is clear and you can see what looks like stumps following your bait.Needless to say we got 4 over 30 inches that day.I dont use a leader out there because I found that the lures dont act the same with one on.If your going to be there that weekend send me a PM and maybe we can meet up and have breakfest lunch or dinner and share stories. Thanks again and have a good one fellas.(and ladies)

I just use 8-12lbs mono (trilene) depending on lure type on spinning gear with 6'6" MH rods most the time. I never use leader except for with inline spinner because pick swallow them. I usually always keep pike from getting over top my lures. Only one bite off last year. Actually it was with a firetiger rattle trap also. You deffinatly don't need to worry when using safety pin style spinner baits because of the wire form. The amount of different species you can catch there and how quickly is amazing. I will be going up the 3rd weekend in June for 3 days. Can't wait.
