First off Great Show from two very Stand-Up guys from the Michigan Trappers Association.

Also the guy behind the camera did a great job.

Joe you sure did have a good day on the line to be filmed. And boy you sure can skin a muskrat fast what was that 30 seconds. :)

Gary THANK YOU you sure are doing the job that many wouldn't want to do. And I am sure it felt nice to leave that office for a day and ride with Joe.

Congrads to a great show guys. And Thank You MUCC for taking the time to film this show.

That was very sweet!!!!

Not only a red but you get a coyote on tape. That was very cool tried to tape it but it didnt tape. Not very happy about that but other than that it was great.

Congrats Joe..

Maybe some people that know anything about trapping will get different views and try to learn about trapping.

How nice would it be to have a local out-of-doors show that focused solely on trapping? Once a week for a half hour, different sets, different target species, different times of year, skinnig, selling, a little bit of everything. While the target audience might not be big enough, I bet a bunch of guys from this forum would schedule around it. It was great to watch tonight's show.

Glad everyone enjoyed the show. I had to cancel on them once due to high water. Then I worked my hind end off for 3 days resetting and setting up some new sections for the filming. The coyote encounter was a once in a lifetime thing. I doubt it will ever happen to me again. I guess I'm lucky though. I have documented proof that it happened. I would like to encourage everyone to write MOOD and show your apreciation for the wonderful job they did putting the show together.

Nice job Joe. You and Gary are fine representatives of our sport. Not only did you show successful trapping but you showed it can be done respectfully and emphasized the need for damage control.

Joe,and All trappers for that matter,
I don't even trap, but I was so impressed with the way you represented All stewards of the outdoor resources that I felt compelled to jot them a note.
My 10 y.o. son has been intruiged by trapping since he got his MTA handbook last year at a trapping seminar.
Shows like this teach kids that there's more to life than a PS2 !
Great job,BTW I've never e-mailed MOOD before..
Best segment I've seen on there in years.
Honest and truthful, no BS, I loved it !...Mark

you know....I did think that joe looked a LOT better than the saturday morning that I met him at the convention. :yikes: :) .

My girlfriend and I went to visit her parents on the way home from watching the Roscommon wrestling meet. When we got there her dad was watching the show and really thought it was cool. It's nice to see first hand how it reaches the people who arent trappers too.

Great job on a very successful segment Joe.

I am seldom impressed with the segments on MOOD, but I do watch every show.

This was by far the finest segment that they have aired to date! Thanks to both of you for doing such a fine job of promoting trapping, and showing what sportsmen are all about.

Was that an average day for you? Did you have more traps out than you normally might, or did everything just fall into place? No matter what it certainly seemed to be a great day?!?!?!

Hey guys, glad you liked the show. To tell you the truth, it is certainly easy to get a good show when you go with upstanding guys like Joe and Gary. Being around sportsmen every day, we see the good and the bad. Hats off to these two for representing trappers so well. Great job on showing the general public what goes on every day as their driving to work and sitting in a cubical staring at a monitor...

So many people that I talked to before/after doing the shoot didn't have any idea what trapping entailed. Some of which are avid deer hunters and had some misconceptions about trappin'. It's nice to have a venue like PBS to air a show that explains it, unlike Fox who has allowed "yellow journalism" on their airwaves and unfortunately, Joe Public is none the wiser and takes it as the truth.

Anyway, good luck in the field and keep that fur comin'.

Thanks for all the nice comments. Joe really did work his butt off after the other filming was canceled do to high water. Gabe was fantastic, even though we all agreed Kelly is just a tad cuter. Gabe was with us for 8 hours. Yes, Joe did talk for most of the 8 hours. It still is a mystery why he talks about being shy and not good at talking in front of people or cameras. Send your comments directly to Jimmy Geretzinger the Executive Producer if you liked it and want to see more. Jimmy's e-mail is jgretzinger@mucc.org. One question - Gabe, what happened to that weight reduction lens I requested????

First chance to sit down at the computer since last night when I watched the show two times in a row. I figured I'd be a few pages down on the thread by now. Anyway, AWESOME SHOW!!!!!
Joe, Gary, and Gabe, you guys have done all of the trappers proud. Jimmy's comments on the trapping subject were very tasteful too.

Fantastic show guys! Thanks MOOD for showing it. I had several students come in to my classroom today to say they watched it and really enjoyed it. A couple already trap and the others are interested in learning.

NEMichsportsmen,

The catch that day was a good day. The rat catch wasn't totally out of line for a new set up. When I found out they wanted to film I saved a few sections of my line so I knew they would get some good footage. I had about 30 traps out the were set specifically for mink. None of them produced, and the mink was caught in a trap set for rats. The fox and the coyote footage was a suprise. I only set 6 traps for canines due to limited access to property and lack of time. So basically the best answer I can give you was that it was a combination of a lot of hard work and everything falling into place. Either way it turned into an excellent show.

Great show guys! Being a new trapper it helped to actually see the sets. You're lucky your werent 15 mins later or you might've only had scraps of a fox!:yikes:

Awsome guys...like already stated you put on a great display of what we are all about. You had a great day of trapping and you made sure to point out the facts of trapping that will hopefully wipe away some miths that people have about our sport.

Great show! I think MOOD TV needs to be encouraged to not only show more trapping segments but other fur harvesting.

I MISSED IT, I live in grayling, and don't have cable or anything and I just could not get PBS to come in no matter how much tin foil was on the rabbit ears!!! I walked in circles with the antenna even stood on one leg but couldn't get it talk about a disappointment...If anyone has it and is willing to get me a copy I will send a VHS and pay postage...

I will see if I can get my DVR to copy to the VCR. I know it can be done, it is just a question of how easily. My entertainment center is loaded with books and electronics so I cant access the cables very easily.

I'll post my results and we can see about making arrangements to get copies out.........a few!;)

What brand and size were your single spring body grips? Just curious as to where I could get some.

Gary, I had the skinny filter on, I don't know what happened. My dad asked me once, "I know the camera adds 5lbs but, how many cameras did you have on me?" Anyway, good job guys.

Great show, I really enjoyed it!

...and I'm not even a trapper, but I would like to get into it some day. Does anyone know of any future MOOD shows? Heck, if they can do 3 or 4 shows on deer hunting, why not a couple more on trapping?

I'd really like to see more "How to", like choose a location, trap setup skinning, ect...

Question: During this past fall we found a huge, (dead) coyote in a leg-hold trap on what appeared to be a deer trail. Is this a common place for trap location or do coyotes follow the same trails too? Thanks in advance.

ALSO are there any good videos or DVDs that talks about different types of traps and best locations to set them? Thanks again!

270,

About half of the 160's that I use are Duke's. The other half are homemade. I have a couple of friends that are pretty talented welders and had them make up the jaw frames and I built the traps from there. Bogmaster (a supply dealer and member of this site) carries the single spring 160 Dukes. I bought mine with two springs, beacause in my case it was more cost effective to build my own and remove the extra spring.

Walleyvision,

Yes coyotes due travel dear trails extensively. Especially in heavily timbered areas. There are several good video sources out there for the beginner. Some are excellent some are just alright in my opinion. Depends on the species you are looking to target.
