Today, I had a decision, did I want to go to the river and get skunked or did I want to get skunked when fish were just not there on the lake. I opted to go to the lake and try for some crappies. I fish for a good 2 hours and was only catching dinky gills.:( I had a bobber 5 feet above my hook and that was just not working. I had a fish(don't know what is was) that hit my bobber:) . After seeing a few bass go by I decided it was time to go. As I was going through my box, putting stuff away, I relized I had this big pike popper that shoeman gave me that might just get some pike. So I put that on and tried out my new fly rod.. I did one cast and was learning the lure I was using when outta no where this silver things hit's my popper. I think it is a huge silver bass. This is the very first time I ever had to put a fish on the fly reel. I reeled it in and relized it was one of the biggest crappies I ever have caught.:) I decided to keep it. I had several more crappie/bass hit that popper but no pike. I also saw one silver fish lurking in the weed's waiting for my popper to go over but could not entice him. Also had a nice carp swim by. I was then kicked out of the park:eek: and was on my way home. When I got home I relized I had a master angler crappie. It weighed 2.5 lbs and was 15 inches long, 7 inches tall and 2.5 inches fat. One of the biggest crappies I have ever seen. It was a great day and I also found myself a LUCKY HAT. One in my avator:)

Thanks to all the people that tried to help me out getting the form for the angler thing.

That is what fishing is all about. Your fishing hard, not catching anything. Just enjoying being outdoors. Your ready to pack it up then you tell yourself, " just a few more casts". Then all of a sudden, WHAM!, You got yourself a master angler Crappie. What an adreniline rush. Good job!

Its something bigger crappie do when bored with a minnow, as the minnow moves the bobber around they get all fired up and pop the bobber those small ice bobbers they take right under. Got my largest one on a big bass popper also. Good fishing!

Thanks guys, I am now thinking of getting it mounted depending on the cost.

Les, after Don has been having alll this great luck with his hat, I decided to go through my pictures and see what I have always been wearing. I notice that I have always been wearing my, I'd Rather be fishing" hat and when when I switched to my MS hat, I was catching less fish. So I changed it and caught that huge un. Now to try it on the steel.

Thats a great Crappie. If you put it in water and froze it solid you should be able to get it mounted years from now. Congrats on a true trophy!!!!!:)
