Hello!

I know many of you are wondering what's happening with the ice up here so I thought I would give a brief rundown from what I actually have been on/seen.
Sunday fished open water (not a speck of ice) for rainbows! Had a blast as I got 3 in one hour fishing a teardrop 3 feet below a bobber!
Tuesday Houghton Lake was open, Wednesday it froze although it appeared to be open toward the middle grounds. I'd say at least 2 more days of freeze is needed to even attempt this lake.
I fished a small private pond on Monday with about 4" of solid ice. This pond is only 1 acre and about 16 feet deep. Did catch a couple of pike!
Yesterday, a close friend was out fishing a canal to one of the Twins here in Lewiston. 3" of ice but very, very, unstable ice near shore. He did manage 4 walleye but had to go home twice to change his pants from breaking through near shore. We are scheduled to fish this later today but if we can't get on it, then I won't report tomorrow. On the east shore of W.Twin, there is about 1" of ice so it will be another day or two before I can get on it. I have not checked E.Twin yet so I have no report as of yet.The deep lakes are not even close and will be at least mid-week of next week before I attempt some of them.
Save your gas money for one more week and plan on doing some fishing on the weekend of the 20th, is my recommendation to anyone who thinks of traveling "up north" to do any ice fishing.

Fished a section of one of the Twins here in Lewiston. By no means would one want to venture out further than the 50-75 yards that myself and two others were on yesterday. We were on ice that had blown into a small bay and it had actually froze all together. Very weird, but was about 4" thick. We had tip-ups set up in 8-13" fow, 3 flags, 1 17" eye. 2 hours.
