I seen it early last fall but didn't buy it. Was thinking about trying some on my baitcaster though but wanted to see some posts about it. Seems no one has given it a good test yet.........

A good friend of mine bought some this summer for our Canada trip. I fished with him for four days staight and he outfished me. I was using 14 lb. fireline and he was using 14lb. fireline crystal. We had the same harness setup on. The only thing that was different was the line. I know that he he still using it for casting for the eyes. I haven't used it myself but our little test is good enough for me to go out and buy some for next summer's trip.

I have been using Fireline Crystal for a few months now. I started out using it this fall for jigging deep water walleye and perch and also have it spooled up for a couple of icefishing rigs. I've just used the lighter stuff so far, the 8 lb test/3lb diameter. I've always used either the hi vis or the smoke in the past, however was concerned with the line shyness issue, and always tied on a mono leader. With the crystal, I've gone without the leader without any noticeable loss of bites. I'm a big line watcher for light bites, which I really like the hi-vis for that. The smoke seems stealthier, but harder for me to see. I think the crystal is the perfect compromise between the two.

It's not completely clear, actually more of a white. However, as you look at it on say a dark spool, you can see that it actually is kind of a translucent. It gets an "A" rating from me so far. Like I say, I've only used the lighter weight stuff and only on a spincast reel, but so far, so good.

Thats what I been waiting to hear. I have 14 lb. regular fireline on one of my baitcasters and I think this spring I'll switch over to the clear. I was also wondering about the real thin crystal to put on one of my ice fishing reels used just for eyes.......sounds like a winner........

I'm not a big fan of Fireline in general, but do use it for jigging applications-especially ice fishing.

I'm going to Minnesota ice fishing my guts out for 4 days in Feb on Lake Winnibigoshish and plan on using the Fireline Crystal on at least 2 rods...if I can remember I'll try to give a report about how it works out.

They only make Crystal in up to 20lb test at this point. I bought a spool, it has a diameter of 8 lb test. I will try a few rods trolling this year on some whippy long rods I have.

Dang, 1 lb. I'd need a microscope with me to tie a hook on that thin a line. Can't imagine..............these old eyes can't see that good.

I used some 10LB for 6 weeks in the fall casting with a spinning rod for eyes.
It somewhat disappears once its in the water, but the last 8 ft or so started fraying like the other fireline does and started collecting ice
once it got cold, so I had to switch back to power pro for the cold weather.

I started using reading glasses several years ago once my arms weren't long enough anymore. I just use the the $10 pairs at Meijer's. For regular reading I use 2.25x, but for tying fishing line I have a pair of 3.25x that I keep in my vest. They have a rather shallow depth of field because of the higher magnification, but it sure makes tying those super thin fishing lines a lot easier.

No glasses needed here (I'm 55) I tied on a 30ft piece via the uni-uni knot onto the other fireline I had on allready. (much like a 30ft leader) I very seldom fish deeper than 30ft.

The only thing I don’t like about the braids is tangles. Might as well just get the knife out. I won’t use it for ice fishing (although I’ve tried) when 2 lines are in close proximity of each other. I do like it for jigging Walleye in the river. I usually stick with mono for trolling unless Dipsie rods are being used. In some applications, stretch is not always a bad thing, imo

I hate the stuff. Not only are the tangles a major pain, but it has too much drag in the water. I tried trolling hot-n-tots. After a couple of minutes, my lures would be skiing across the surface. However, it does stay limper in icy water, so it does'nt spool off on its own as much as mono.

We've tried the regulat fireline for walleye Icefishing....and the results were terrible as for spooking the fish.....My buddy had fireline on...I was using trilene xt.....he could not figure out why I was slamming them for 2-days and he had zilch.....told him to get rid of the fireline.....and he started picking up fish.....Even when jigging in the river.....I tie on a leader of Trilene invisible green!! I'd be interested in whether this crystal fireline would still spook the leary walleye??

I love fireline myself for whipping and trolling, I know I would not like it for perch thru the ice but I do have fireline on the perch rod I use at Simcoe in the fall but I tie a mono drop shot rig about 2' long and just connect it to the fireline with a snap swivel.. I just cant give up that fireline I feel "EVERYTHING", I even make my leaders for whipping out of it, I know it sounds crazy because it can cut your hands but man you wont miss a lick..

I am eventually going to buy a bulk spool of the Clear for the 10 reels I have that will need to be respooled, I was just waiting for Houghton laker or Gilly, or MWP to buy me some of that new fireline:lol:.. Cya Slick

PS..I will concur when the stuff gets tangled it's time to cut and retie, I dont to often get my lines crossed out on the river but from time to time one BB will come in contact with another and it's a mess.. Well I looked on Ebay 20lb test 1100 yard spool $85.00
