Thursday had me Itchin for Morels. I got on the boots and headed for the Hot Spot. The woods were not as wet as I had anticipated. Small shoots and buds were starting to pop out in certain areas that held water longer than others. While studying the ground at my feet , the form of a giant serpent filled my vision about 2 feet from my two feet. It was a Blue racer approx. 4 ft. long. after I slowed my heart rate a little I noticed the other, larger female racer another 2 ft. away. I blended into the surrounding cover to watch for a bit, since the shrooms were not cooperating. The snakes seemed to be suning on a nice southern ridge face. After 15 or 20 min. I slowly shuffled to the side to leave and WOW! another one about knee high on a shrub. Another male! maybe a little competition. Well I had seen enough so I moved on. I did not find any shrooms yet but today is another day.:D I also managed to save two different Turtles to. One big box turtle and one painter. They were each crossing major roads at different spots. I just helped them along a bit.
