Howdy all!

I know that this has been a miserable winter for ice fishing. But as many of you know about a month ago someone asked me if I could do an iron on version of the M-S decals that they could apply to their shanty. I worked something up and did a prototype. It looks like it's probably going to work. I just made one up for Steve. I'm going to head to the post office tomorrow and ship it to him. At that point I'll know what the shipping cost will be and I can then figure out what I have to charge for them. Quite a few of you expressed interest in buying one if I do start producing them. I should know some time tomorrow how much they'll be. Once I figure it out I'll let you know. At that point I'll figure out a way for you to order them. I do have a Paypal account so that may be the easiest and quickest way to handle it. That's the way I've been handling payment for the M-S decals and it's working well.

These iron on decals can be done in any of the thirty designs that I'm offering for the regular pressure sensitive M-S decals. They're basically the same thing except that they are done with heat transfer vinyl instead of normal vinyl. You'll just have to let me know which design you want and your screen name or whatever you want the bottom to say.

Here's a picture of a deer one that I did and applied to a windbreaker that I have.

Here's a picture of the one that I did for Neil Duffey and he applied it to his shanty.

http://www.michigan-sportsman.com/photopost/data/500/medium/shantydecal.jpg

The prototype I did for neil was only about 9" diameter and I made it black as per his request. But the production ones will be 12" diameter and they'll be yellow just like the deer version I did for myself. I think at this point I'm going to limit the color selection to yellow because it is the color that I have most of in stock and I think it will show up very well on any color shanty as well as be visible for a decent distance.

I'll let you know tomorrow what the cost will be and we can go from there.

Thanks so much for the interest!

John

Great. Thanks Chad.

I just got back from the post office. Shipping isn't as bad as I thought it would be. Although packaging is a bit of a task because they have to be put in a tube to protect them in shipment.

At this point I'm going to just offer the iron on decals in yellow. If things go well and there's enough demand I can add color options later but we'll see how things go. The decals will be $20 total with shipping. Some have said that they may want more than one. If you order more than one, the first one will be $20 and each additional decal ordered and shipped with the same order will be $17.50.

With that being said I'd just like to make one thing clear. I have no way of knowing what the material your shanty is made of. I've done a test on a very light weight nylon windbreaker and it worked fine. Neil Duffey applied one to his shanty and it appears to have worked well also. There are many different kinds of material out there that they use for shanties but from what I've seen with the tests so far I think these should work fine on most shanties out there. If you want to order one of these and apply it to your shanty that's great. But I can not guarantee that it will work! Anyone ordering these will be doing so at their own risk. I can not accept responsibility if you damage your shanty while applying it. I would suggest doing a test on your shanty material before ordering one. What I think will work is to take your household iron and set it to the cotton or linen setting which is usually the second and highest setting and preheat it. Then get a pillow case to use between the iron and the nylon. Select a small area of the shanty material in an area that's not seen and place a backer behind the material and then place the pillow case over top of the material. (you'll now have the nylon sandwiched between the pillow case and the backer) You could use a small block of wood or something for this purpose. Then place the tip of the iron over the pillow case and press down with some pressure and let it heat for about 20-30 seconds. Then remove the iron and let the material cool. If no damage occurs I think you'll be able to apply the iron on with no problem.

Thanks again for the interest. I think it will be a great way to promote the site and to find other fellow M-S'ers out on the ice!

Will do. I've got enough of the yellow to probably fill the orders for the ones who said they were interested in buying one. When that is used up and I have to make another run to resupply I can pick up some white too. It looks like it may not be long either. ;)

Thanks

How do we go about ordering them? Do you want us to pm you?
Yes. For now I think if you just PM me we can handle it that way. I don't think that there will be enough volume to make it necessary to add this option to the other link where you can order the regular decals. How about this....

If you want a decal you first have to decide on which design you want. Just go to this link and take a look and make a decision.

http://www.michigan-sportsman.com/decals.htm

When you've decided just send me a PM and let me know how many you want and what you want them to say. I'm assuming that most will just want their screen name here. If so, I will just use your screen name as it appears here.

I think Paypal will be the best way to handle payment because it's quick and easy. Once I have payment by Paypal I will make the order up and get it right out. I guess that if you want to send me a check or money order that will be fine but there will be a slight delay while I wait to receive the check. With your order let me know how you wish to pay. If you want to pay by Paypal I'll PM you back with the address to send it to. If you want to pay by check or money order I'll send you the mailing address to send it to. Again here are the prices.

The decals are $20 each unless you order more than one. If you order more than one, the first one is $20 and each additional one ordered at the same time to be shipped together will be $17.50.

Thanks to all who have shown an interest. I think this will be a good way to promote the site.

Ok it looks like Yellow isn't going to be well received. ;) I do have two other colors at this point. I have black and green. If you'd like one of these three colors at this point that will be fine. I'll do the decals in either of those three colors for now. I will get some white eventually. But right now I've had a lot of inquiries but still have no actual orders yet. I do this pretty much on the side. It's not my main business and this heat transfer material is pretty expensive so I can't afford to stock a bunch of it for possible future use. Once I start receiving orders and using up some of what I have on hand I'll get some more in white. I'll let you know when it's available. Here are the three colors I'm currently offering.

Thanks!

would an iron-on work on a frabill? that arctic armor stuff looks like it would melt. that yellow would look sweet!
how much?

jpollman

I'm not sure how the Arctic Armor would react to the heat. If you'd like to test it on a small inconspicuous area that might be your best bet. To do so you could set your iron to the linen setting and let it get hot. When it's hot use a pillow case and place it over the Arctic Armor in a small out of site spot. Then place the iron over the pillow case and press down for about 30 seconds. Remove the heat and pillow case. If the fabric doesn't melt you should be good to go.

In the top picture of the test decal I did for myself that is a very light weight nylon windbreaker. I had the iron set to it's hottest setting and heated the decal for at least a minute and a half and the nylon wasn't damaged at all.

Again, I don't know how this decal will stick to all materials but it did stick very well to the jacket I did and I didn't have any problems. I would suggest doing the heat test before ordering. I can't be responsible for damage to your shanty if you want to try it. Neil did his and it worked fine but there are a lot of different shanty materials out there and they're not all the alike.

If you want to order one they're $20 each unless you order more than one. If you order more than one, each additional decal ordered at the same time and shipped together are $17.50.

Thanks!

John

Great idea! Looks nice. Now I need a new shanty to put one on. Do you think the colors may be different in future. I'm thinking maybe one of the florescent colors of orange or yellow that stand out at night for fisherman trying to avoid snowmobiles running through their shanty's. Would be great for safety and stand out too. Keep the great stuff coming.

Hi Ralf,

due to the cost of the material the color choices will be limited. There are LOTS of colors available but I can't stock them because of the cost and limited usage. I'll probably offer at least yellow, white, and black. If there is enough interest and sales I'll get other colors but that will depend on the demand. Personally, I think the yellow will probably be the most visible and best because it will look good on a blue, black, or green shanty. White is good too but less visible out on the ice due to the white background out there. ;)

Hi there,
I'm taking orders now. I've actually made and shipped about six of them. I'm starting to get low on the yellow and black so I'll have to get some more material soon. When I do I'll get some white.

If you want to order one just send me a PM. You can use this link to select the design that you want. But don't use that ordering system. The ordering for the shanty iron-ons is handled differently than the regular decals.

http://www.michigan-sportsman.com/decals.htm

Just send me a PM with your selection of design and what you want it to say. (usually just your screen name) I'll respond to the PM with my Paypal address and we can go from there.

Thanks!

John

Not to be picky, but do you think you can add a crappie or bluegill graphic for the shanty designs?

It's that time of year again!

If you want an iron on decal for your shanty I'll be doing them again. I'm low on material right now but will get some as soon as I have orders. I figured that I would pick up some white and red iron on material. So right now I can offer them in white, red, yellow, or black. Once I know there is interest, I'll go pick up the material and start making them up. The pricing will be the same as last year. First one ordered is $20 shipped. If you order more than one with the same order each additional is only $17.50. These can be applied to your shanty, sweatshirt, or t-shirt. I had people asking the other day and Steve said no problem. So let me know and I'll get things going.

Thanks!

John

Can they only be applied to cloth? I have a Minute-Man II that has the plastic-type material for the sides. Would love to get a decal, but don't want to melt a hole in the shanty, either.

The instructions that come with the material state that it will not adhere to Nylon. But I've got a light weight lined wind breaker that is 100% nylon and it stuck just fine to that.

I have a Shappell portable shanty with the "tarp like" material, do you think the decal will adhere to that? If so, I'm interested, thanx John.
