Cabelas has a sale on all of thier shanties. The guy said the weather was killing them. They have the clam 2000 for $161-ish and then if I use my card before 1/8 I can get another $30 off of it. I don't need a shanty but it would be sweet. Haven't done much ice fisher ever actually but I really want to. Basically I want something my brother in-law and I can use for the 2 of us. I will be dragging it myself, no sled or quad. I think it said the clam 2000 is like 45 pounds. It should easily fit in my truck and would be close in my car. What are people's feelings on the clam 2000 and is this a good deal?

I just got mine for christmas. I have not had it out on the ice yet but as soon as I opened it, it was up in my living room. I already like it, Fairly easy set up, The only downer in setting the dome roof up kinda hard getting it up and both sidesnot being suppprted by anything, easier with 2 people. Over all so far I like. Fits in my car.

Many people think that the flip over style is better.

Just a thought

A little heavy for a pull. trust me. They sell shanties for two adults that weigh 1/2, for close or less the price.
The thing I didn't like about my clam was the bottom wasn't attached to the top. It had elastic bands to keep it down. On a nice day it worked but when the wind blew the bottom lifted and the air went through. Also It was a pain placing the top over the frame in the wind. Alone impossible.
I didn't like the blue canvas. To much light inside. (if you buy form a store- sit inside and zip it up). They may have fixed that problem with a black inside by now?.
If you need a light shanty for 2 people at a good price let me know. Trust me They are hurting in every Dealership. Including Minnesota, Canada and other big ice fisheries. The Time is to look not jump.

I have a clam 2000 and just love it. easy set up nice and dark. have not noticed any issues with the wind lifting the canvis.

I do 90 percent of my fishing by myself so i HULL ALL MY SYUFF OUT MYSELF. The only issue i had was loosing gear when i pulled it out. i found oversize bungge cords for that. no more problems anymore.

I looked at a Viking 2xl or 2000 or whatever in the similar price and it was about 40 pounds too I think.

So what are my other 2 man options in that price range? How much more is the "flip over"? I don't know that I need that since I'm still a novice. I can always upgrade, but I don't want to pass up a deal.

Menards is carrying Viking shantys...Not sure why but they have them.... I got the Strike Zone II, 2 man flip for 269.00 including the travel cover....They also had the standard clamstyle that were 127.00 to 147.00?..I wasn't interested in the clamstyle so I really didn't pay much attention...The Strike Zone is dark inside...Folds into a sled...it is heavy though at around 80 pounds...I have a quad and a sled to haul it with though so the weight isn't a problem...

I am growing impatient wating to get enough ice so I can get on Hamlin and catch some eyes....Tomorrow just may be big lake day if I can find a crew that wants to freeze their keesters off....

Yeah if we get any decent weather even to go ice fishing.

Yikes. 80 pounds is not 1 person pull friendly at all. At least not 1 Doug pull friendly. There's not a whole lot of menards close to A2 for me even to check it out.

The 80 pounds was my point. When you get into the flip style weight is going to go up...But when you get to your spot on the lake, it is set up in like 3 seconds. The way things are looking this year mine is still going to be new next year lol..

I have this one in a 3 man.

http://www.store.nodakoutdoors.com/index.php/manufacturers_id/3

it's very light easy to pull. easy to stack on and use as a sled. sets in seconds even alone. fits two guys and a heater easy. Only bad thing is its so light you need to anchor it to the ice if its windy. blk. dark canvas.

The fold up box types plow snow and makes for a hard pull. this shanty floats over the snow.

spend the extra $100 and buy a clam guide. it fit in the back of the truck. i take mine out of the truck load it up( power auger, 3 vexilars, grill, lanterns, rods, and beer) and away i go. it pulls nice and never had any issues.i had a sharpell s-3000 that was i thought was great and it was but it dont compare to the flip style. OR YOU CAN TAKE THE MONEY AND PUT A DOWN PAYMENT ON A BOAT. SO YOU CAN FISH YEAR AROUND:lol:

Already have the boat. If we don't have ice this year, we'll have it next or sometime. Or we'll go up north or something. I'd like one small enough I can fit it in my car (it's a station wagon where I can fold the seats flat) so I have the option of using that.

Ed, I tried to pm you back, but your inbox is full. Have you dealt with that site before? That a good price on the glacier? They look pretty sweet. I wonder how bad shipping would be on sometihng like that.

Sorry Doug. I emptied my box. I don't recall the shipping cost? and when I ordered it there wasn't any tax applied. That may have changed now. We got ours out of Minnesota at a good price. Tin Can from our site might recall what they charged. he purchased one the same time I did. We did add a length of conduit that runs from the mid pole to the bottom. Its removable and makes it rock solid/ The three photos I have are kinda junky ones of the shanty but it will give you an idea. Eric (Tin Can) from our site called the guy in Minnesota who was very informative. It was shipped quick in perfect condition.

I really like my clam 2000, lots of room for two people and easy to set up by myself light weight and can load and unload by myself, when setting the dome roof make the bend of the pole face toward the floor hook into other end and then rotate it to the roof seems to work well for me, at can have mine set up in under 5 min by myself

I stopped in today to still take advantage of the deal and contrary to what the guy last week told me, they have none other than the display. Guess I'll go to the fishing show this weekend and see if anything there looks good.

I bought the clam before christmas and set it up in my garage for a test and I do NOT like the new design they have for the "dome" roof the old style is much better set up the poles that criss cross are way to flimbsy and dont bend in the right spots or atleast not until you got a half hour into them:mad: I brought mine back and bought a used 5600 much nicer shack...just my 2 cents:coolgleam

I have the old style clam before they made the double layered beefed up floor. It is a great shack. Mine is 10+ years old with countless hours on it and it is starting to show a lot of wear. Mine weighs a lot less than 40lbs.

I have had good and bad experiences with the clam 2000. The first one I bought about two years ago, didn't even make it through one season. The floor started cracking the first trip I made with it. I stepped on the shanty while it was collapsed and my foot broke threw the plastic (I weigh 185 in my icefishing atire). Every trip I made, the plastic would crack even more till the end of the season 1, the pull rope wasn't even connected anymore. I never once pulled the shanty with snowmobile or quad. I hated everything about the clam 2000! I called the company and they did nothing. I call gander mountain and the manager said "bring it in, we'll swap it for a new one".

Gander Mountain actually shipped one from their flint store to their Grandville store and called me when it arrived. I brought what was left of my clam 2000 with the receipt and they swapped it for a brand new clam 2000 still in the box. I fished the new one all last year and never had a single problem. Very light and easy to set up. If I decide to upgrade I would like one that pulls easier in deep snow, otherwise, it is perfect for 1-2 people. I'm guessing the first one was just a lemon.

I think I'm going to keep an eye open. If I see something I like at a price I like, I'll go for it. if not.. oh well...

Anything that folds into a box will pull hard in the snow. Anything that folds into a sled would be a better choice for hand pulling. The lighter the shanty the more junk you can haul onto the ice.

Don't forget. When looking at one in a store, sit inside and zip it up to judge the darkness and (this freaks out the clerks) Try breaking down the shanty and putting it back up. You can also grab the type of seat you'll be fishing in and give it a try.

I have the Clam 2000, I bought it a few years ago on a late season sale... Works good but for two guys a little small. as long as you don't have a lot of extra junk inside it will work OK. Go bigger if you can, they will knock the price down even more as the season comes closer to the end. Check out other places, Gander, Dicks, Bass Pro, Wally world, etc.. Good luck.

Had one and sold it. Bottom plastic cracked first time out. Also when it was windy it took off with me in it:yikes: Was easy to set up though and wasn't that bad to pull out.

my one last year cracked at the bucket depression and i called clam and they had me cut out the logo on the doors and mail them in and then they sent me a brand new one, so now I have 2 brand new ones, but the one know has windows and i fixed the crack so i can have everyone go out now
