Like shoeman said on another thread, try henning in newaygo. right on the muskegon. You might wanna try shamrock park on the joe. Or there is a place in scottsville right on the PM, you might want to try that out. There is also a place in durand called walnutt hill's. Right on the shiwasse(sp) river. There is also a place up in oscoda called foote campground but that is not on the lake. You have to drive a little to get to the river.

Tree Hunter, there are several in Mio, that would accommodate the overnighter. One, that I have used is on Camp 10 Road. Can't remember the the name. I have done the float from the SB to Mio pond and camped along the way.

Yes I have fond memories of a canoe/camp trip downstream from Mio. There are many outfitters in Mio, and they will set up to pick you up anywhere from a day to a week later. Just don't bite off more than you can chew like we did. Take your time and enjoy it.... don't try to power canoe it. There are many many places to camp on federal land along the river on that streatch.

There is overnight/canoe camping on the Manistee also, upper Manistee River campground has a nice walk-in area with take-out spots for canoes.

aaahhh yes campten, where else can you float down in an innertube with a cooler filled with a couple dozen crawlers and some uummmm pop:D and catch five different fish off of the same bait and set-up. great memories there. there was another place, and white birch comes to mind , campsite right on the river, but i cannot remember what river it was. i will have to ask someone who has a better memory and get back with you on that, i do remember a trout pond at the livery, but we had caught walleye, and some trout. now its bugging me. i will get back to you on that.

It's been a really long time since I was up there but my all time favorite trip ever was a two day trip on the manistique river. The only outfitter I could find on the internet was these guys. http://www.exploringthenorth.com/northland/river.html This isn't the same outfitter we went through. I think if you search harder you may find a few others. I highly recamend the manistique river though. I promise you will never forget it! Make sure you float through the seney national wildlife area. It's like a trip into a whole nother world!
